The New T-Mobile Coverage Map

Since the merger, T-Mobile's coverage has grown! Although not by much. Sprint only added 1% more total coverage in the United States. This now gives T-Mobile 63% coverage of the US, where before it was 62% coverage.

Now that T-Mobile has acquired Sprint, they are rebranding themselves the New T-Mobile… so does the New T-Mobile come with any coverage benefits?? Yes, they sure do. Kind of. Sprint’s coverage does offer some benefit to T-Mobile’s vast coverage, but the majority of people on T-Mobile won’t really notice the bigger network, unless you’re in a few select cities in states.

This video is only going over the New T-Mobile’s 4G coverage. To access all the new coverage you’re going to need a phone that’s compatible with both networks… generally newer phones have the technology built in to work with both networks, older phones (earlier than 2017), don’t.

The jury is still out on what the new T-Mobile’s 5G network will look like with Sprint’s added 5G bands so don’t beat me up in comments. And i’m not showing 3G because 3G frustrates me more than anything in this world right now, and when my phone is on 3G, I don’t even attempt to use it… and if you care about 3g, then bless your heart.

So Pre-Merge T-Mobile had 2,258,148.25 square miles of coverage in the united states.

Sprint has 1,096,636.12 square miles of coverage.

To get the New T-Mobile coverage you can’t just add the two together because T-Mobile and Sprint have overlapping coverage… so what my super-researcher- ultimate numbers-guy-co-worker-mike did was figure out where Sprint added to T-Mobile’s coverage.

At WhistleOut we found that of Sprint’s 1-million square mile coverage, there’s only 41,086.25 square miles of coverage added to the New T-Mobile which means T-Mobile’s new coverage is only 2,299,234.5 million square miles. And that means Sprint makes up 1.787% of the total New T-Mobile coverage.

Now this is AMAZING for Sprint customers because when you roam outside Sprint LTE coverage, you will automatically switch to T-Mobile’s LTE, if you have a compatible phone. Sprint coverage more than DOUBLES. Now if you’re on T-Mobile, there’s not going to be much a difference for you. Or if you’re thinking about switching from Verizon or AT&T to T-Mobile because of increased coverage… ehh. Probably not worth it for that reason.

In terms of what that coverage looks like in America, T-Mobile now covers 63.46% of the US, where before it was 62.33%. Sprint gives the New T-Mobile 1.13% MORE coverage in the United States… to put it in perspective that extra 1% and 41k square miles of coverage is about the same size as Tennessee.

Now if I could do impressions I'd make a joke about the top 1%. So in what states does this additional 1% coverage fall?

Let’s take a look! First, Hawaii you ARE fully loaded with T-Mobile coverage. The added Sprint coverage basically covers all the islands. Now T-Mobile is pink and Sprint is blue because yellow didn’t give us enough of a contrast.

Let’s head on over to the mainland now, Sprint, in blue, gives Mississippi nearly 100% full coverage. Along with some much needed coverage in the Virginia's. Sprint gives the lonely state of Nebraska A LITTLE bit of the new T-Mobile coverage, and lastly the very north west corner of Washington state gets a little bump in coverage as well.

Now if you’re directly north or south of Nebraska, and almost anywhere east of the Cornhusker state, there is SOLID New T-Mobile coverage. If you go west of Nebraska things start to get a little dicey for New T-Mobile customers, you can see that their coverage is not as vast as the east coast.

Let me know what you think of the new T-Mobile coverage? Is the 1% additional coverage worth the 26-billion dollar price tag???? Let me know in the comments below.

It was a 5G play as to why TMO bought Sprint; the mid-band 2.5 GHZ was the missing puzzle piece to continue their winning streak by TMO since the 600 MHZ is not fast enough bit will surely help keep customers connected. Not sure blue or red will be able to compete for some tome as they inch forward their MMW and also try to stitch bands together to get additional coverage that way (while TMO builds it natively). Big red and blue are 💩ing and should be...countdown started and the gig will be up soon.

Not sure why its so fun keeping up to date with tech stuff, but it really is. Thanks for the awesome video! I am defo NOT a fan of AT&T. Glad to see TMobile expanding.

Well the main reason why T-Mobile wanted Sprint wasn't to expand it's coverage. It was to gain Sprint's different bands for their 5g.

I'm in Michigan and T-Mobile is great, and much faster and consistent than my Verizon line.. I can consistently get 150mbps download and 40-58 Mbps upload any time of day at home and just about everywhere I go through out my WK, b71 is all over the west coast of Michigan and is now in Lansing Michigan and speeds and coverage has increased a ton, I can now travel the whole state and rarely find spots with no coverage and buffering videos.. at home I can stream 1440p all day without any buffering problems, my Verizon phone barley gets 2 bars and don't even compare in my small town, although I'll admit my Verizon phones has never once lost service, but I've found many places the data speeds are unusable, but the Verizon speeds do get much better around larger cities near towers, but there's alot of congestion on Verizon.. so from my experience TMobile wins in Michigan for me

It will help with network speeds. With more towers more network coverage everywhere

Older phones before 2017 aren't able to use both networks?
My Nexus 6 from 2014 is both GSM and CDMA and is compatible with Sprint, Verizon, T Mobile and AT&T. 🤔
