I'm glad they included this now in LR because that was probably one of the few remaining things I would have to send to PS, and the annoying thing for me was that after doing spot removal in PS (or anything in PS) it would have to send back a TIF and basically your edits to that point, were baked into the image and you could continue to re-adjust again, further, but the initial edits that were sent over to PS are part of the resulting TIFF so this is a bit of a game changer and allows us to further keep more of a non-destructive workflow and merges more of the PS features into LR, thus further making LR/LRC more of a one-stop-shop photo editing tool. I'm sure there are instances where PS is still needed for some things, but I do have to say that I"m impressed with how much they have improved LR/LRC over the past 3-4 years.

As always, your very clear examples made for a great intro to these new tools. Thank you Matt!

Matt I figured out why the remove tool keeps adding more of what you’re trying to remove at the edges of the image. Most likely you have cropped it. Since light room keeps the whole image and is only showing you the portion you want to see with the crop you are in essence only removing a small portion of what you’re trying to remove. The tool thinks you’re trying to rebuild it with something a little different. Took me forever to figure this out. Go back to the full image to remove it then recrop it. If you send it to PS to remove it it only sends the crop of it and that’s why PS removes it so well. Had you tried the same remove on only a portion of the item in PS it would have acted the same.

Due to computer problems, I was unable to run any Lightroom updates for a while and was finally able to update yesterday. Wow! I used this and it's a new toy and I kept trying to find images to use so that I can play!

Matty K, always my source for LRC update news!! This is great, but I'm almost more interested in the improvements the "Lens Blur" function! Hopefully it's faster, and the ability to add in bulk could be great.

Since the Adobe AI generates differently everytime, I think they should offer a vegas mode where one of the results suddenly says "Here's your code for one free month!" . I could see it encouraging a lot of people to keep trying the different results.

Great video. I'm curious to know how well this feature handles higher resolution images though. Part of the issue with the PS version of Generative Fill is that it tends to look blurry on high-res files if you're trying to fill a larger area.

I used this remove tool today for the first time. It's better than the spot removal tool was, but (as you said) not as good as Photoshop's remove tool. I'll keep playing with it.

Finally!! Now I don't have to switch between Lightroom and Photoshop to edit. Definitely will save time and ram space, so I don't have to keep both programs open.

Thanks for the lesson.
As always, be lucky stay safe.

Yeah, it's not perfectly, but it will save time in some small applications I reckon.
It'll get better in the future imo
Thanks Matt 🙏

As I still work with my version of CS6 and can only afford one monthly rental which would you say is best to go with LR or Photoshop... whichever will be a big learning curve for the senior lady lol

Does the quality of the image Generative Fill improve though? If not, is there a workaround to add, let's say, a grain effect within the selected mask to complement the original photo's grain/noise surroundings?

Thanks for this info Matt-and for the great response to a terrible comment. It's one thing to be a thief, but then to be an entitled thief-oh my

Thanks, Matt. Very helpful as always. I'd forgotten about the Lightroom Summit, and I see that it's already started. Does the summit include the latest May 2024 feature updates just released?

Everything seems to be more user-friendly. It works better when it’s actually in Photoshop I find it more cumbersome in light room

Is the resolution of the generative filled part of the image the same as rest of photo?

revdavephotography

Is the resolution of the fill still as limited as most generative fills? It should really match the resolution of the image. Otherwise it is pretty useless. Photoshop also tends to give the filled in parts a certain look that makes it possible to distinguish them fro the real parts, if you pixel peep. Tat should never happen.

Is there a resolution limit to how big an area can be removed, say like the 1024x1024 resolution limit in AI Generative Fill?

apeel

What are the limitations? Photoshop has the issue of rendering a low resolution fill.
