Root Insurance Test Drive Review (Best Car Insurance?)

Here's my Root Insurance Test Drive Review: After one month of using the Root app to monitor my driving I achieved a perfect test drive score for both braking and focused driving. This lowered my car insurance rate quote from Root. But that price is still slightly higher than the car insurance company I use now.

A perfect test drive score dropped my full coverage rate quote from Root by $25/month from $129/month to $104/month and dropped my state minimum rate from $62/month to $53/month. I'm currently paying $77/month with Progressive through a combination of coverage options between full coverage and the minimum.

When comparing vehicle insurance rates it's important compare apples to apples. So I made sure I was comparing the same deductibles for comprehensive and collision, as well as the same liability limits for bodily injury, property damage, and allowance for medical expenses.

I use Progressive to insure my 1994 Jeep Wrangler YJ and 2017 Ford Transit Van. Depending on the payment option selected (monthly, or semi annually), as well as the coverage options, I found Progressive to be ~$10-$20/month cheaper for my specific situation compared to Root.

For any insurance, the cost isn't as important as their ability to pay a claim, and how they handle your claim. Some companies are cheap, but they either don't payout $ as expected, or it takes forever to get it paid out (and you'll accept a lower payout just to close the case). A few are lower cost and have good service, but they cherry pick the good drivers (not sure if thats entirely legal).

So do they track you for a month or the whole time? Because if it’s just for a month then I’d be ok with it but if it’s every time I drive then I don’t think it’s for me

I just started doing the test driving but I’m worrying when I go with my friend and she is driving is that effect my score? Who can I tell the app I’m not the one driving at that moment?!

Hey so I just started and I had Google maps open for directions but other than that didn’t touch my phone. And it showed excessive phone use for that trip. Did this happen for you? How can I use gps with root?

Do they cover the driver while they’re testing them? My mom is doing it and she’s an excellent driver. We tried to find her insurance on root app but we can’t find it


We would like to be safe and make sure If they covered her? Or does she need to get a different insurance while she’s testing?
