According to Dr. Tabor, they thought of the pneumatic body as a type of physical body. Just made of a different substance.

I tend to think these are visions these people are seeing in altered states of consciousness. They never really recognize him, hes able to appear and disappear, and he's glows at times.

Conveniently no mention of the feet.
Hammering, nailing, and prying the feet was done to cripple the victim, in the event of rescue or escape.
It is impossible to stand up with broken feet.
And this scene happens in Galilee, 100 miles from where Jesus died.
