Russia vowed to go ahead with the annexation of the parts of Ukraine that its troops currently control after UN-condemned votes, putting the Kremlin on a fresh collision course with the US and its allies.

Russia will sign treaties to absorb the four regions in eastern and southern Ukraine at a Kremlin ceremony at 3pm Friday, President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters on a conference call Thursday. Putin will also make an address to legislators and other officials, he said.

If there's anything Putin is exceptionally good at it's ignoring criticism. My expectation is he will use the bogus annexation to declare those parts of Ukraine are now Russia, and will justify using tactical nukes just west of there by claiming he's defending the homeland. A nuked buffer zone will dissuade further land attacks from the west. The chess moves after that from Ukraine, the West, and Russia are hard to predict, but obviously could become very nightmarish, yes, it already is, but can still get much worse.
