I am glad they are keeping these names.

Our brother retired Canadian Navy served on both ships before they were retired. He was the one who told me that yes they will reuse the names of the ships for new ships. Something I did not know.❤🇨🇦❤

Built locally. ... Could take a walk and see it gradually getting built, along with their Coast Guard projects.

Interesting to note that the two ships cost at least 4 billion whereas the UK's Korean built cost one billion C$ for 4 ships that are twice the size.

The previous HMCS Protecteur suffered a engine room fire ten years ago during 2014... What took so long to build her replacement? A decade is far, far too damn long...

With a 1 year warranty. Lol. Check it out,

So what do they do with the Asterix? Return it after the lease ends?

I thought that a task force converted air craft carrier would have been better. The flight deck has cranes so that it can unload almost any where.

Glad to see these new vessels but this shows how bad procurement is, the original Protecteur was taken out of service in 2015, and was well past its life expectancy before that. I served in the 80s and there was talk then of replacing it as it was launched in the late 60s.

WHAT was the point of English subtitles/captioning on a video already in English?

You mean to tell me that there isn't a single weapon on board that vessel???!!! Sitting ducks!!!

They get access to healthcare. Which arms dealers to the world lack in abundance.

Wait a minute...the Canadian Navy has a ship just for joints? That's forward thinking. I'm sure it will be very popular with other navies when they do joint exercises (and yes, I meant that).

Finally! An important RCN non combatant vessel that has the basic tools of self preservation.
Edit: They amended this video last 48 hrs. Omitting the mention of its defense armament suite. Two 20mm Phalanx CIWS and four .50 HMG in remote firing turrets. Ability to carry-launch two maritime Cyclones. Very odd to be ashamed of such.😮

Can we just stop calling it a JSS? Its a glorified German designed AOR. It doesn't have 1/2 the capability it was mean to have. Plus aren't we a 3 ocean navy now? Two ships can't support 5 destroyer foatillas which the RCN will become if all River class are built.

Not a ship expert but this looks like a converted freighter of old. Smaller and faster would be the way to go.
