I always loved when, after Matthew passed on, Marilla held her and said "you musn't think that I don't love you as much as Matthew did" it broke and warmed my heart at the same time :)

Marilla is a perfect parent for her. She's strict and oppressed the non sense out of Anne but give so much room for her to flourish. Anne gave her happiness and meaning. With all their flaws, they are perfect for each other.
