it's important to point out that Elizabeth's dithering had allowed Palma to retake virtually all of the Low Countries apart from rebel held areas protected by flood waters. The protestant communities in Brussels, Ghent and Antwerp were destroyed, and those who managed to avoid execution had to flee to Zeeland.
