BIGGEST Learning MISTAKES That Hold Beginner Programmers Back

If you’re getting annoyed at the slow rate of your progress with learning to code, then even just making one of the mistakes I am about to talk about in this video could be massively slowing down how fast you learn and obliterating your progress of actually becoming good at programing.

And how do I know that? Well because I made EVERY SINGLE one of them, and when I stopped doing them, things changed…a lot.

I will warn you, some of these will not be easy to hit - learning to code is not easy - this is a difficult, and abstract skill that takes a lot of effort to master.

but they are the things I just wish someone had shaken me and screamed in my face “TUOMAS, STOP DOING THESE THINGS” so I might have actually paid attention.

So in this video, I am going to be hopping in a time machine to take you back to these mistakes...

Quick Summary :
Mistakes when learning to code :

1 - Learn by heart (learn programming is more about understand core principles common to many programming languages)
2 - Learn everything at once (focus on what you need for your project / or future work and stick to it instead of looking for the "new shinny famous language")
3 - Expect to learn code by doing something else than writing lines of code …
4 - Watching without applying (better to learn by building stuff and applying theory/ new knowledge to your project)

hahaha, I’m a slow learner. i didn’t waste 65 hours I wasted whole 3 months learning, understanding, and memorizing those lines of code

Liked this once midway during the video and tried to like it once again at the end.

Great content and a breath of fresh air for someone like me learning to code but stressing because I don’t remember the order of certain syntax.

I'm sure there's some flaws to my approach but what got me going to school for web development was the projects that I wanted to be able to build. Throughout school, following all of the online classes, instead of recoding the apps that the instructor was making I was coding parts of the apps I wanted to build as they went over the different concepts. This led to the course taking more time and me having to do a lot of independent research just to complete the project but I think that's where the learning really happens.

Your message rings very true to me, and not just regarding programming.
I’ve been interested in computer graphics and ray tracing since the eighties, but haven’t done anything meaningful about it for decades.
So, for the last couple of years I’ve been looking into Blender. And man, have I been watching tutorials. I’ve watched so many tutorials I think I could say that that has become a hobby in itself. And just like you said in the video, you don’t actually learn if you don’t apply your skill in actual projects.
