I animated my summary of Self-Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson. On top of my personal story of growing up pretty much on my own I share how to achieve Self-Reliance and how I set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant & time-bound (SMART) goals for myself.

How to be Self-Reliant

1. You assume responsibility.
2. You inform yourself.
3. You know where you're going.
- You set S.M.A.R.T. goals & pursue them.
4. You make your own decisions.

How to set SMART goals

- Specific: What exactly do you want to accomplish?
- Measurable: How will you evaluate the extent to which the goal has been met?
- Achievable: Is it even possible? Can you even reach your goal?
- Relevant: Does it fit into the bigger picture? Meaning, does reaching your goal help you progress, get ahead with all your other objectives?
- Time-bound: Basically, by when do you have to achieve your goals, with what frequency, in what time period?

My 10 Principles on Self-Reliance

1) The ulimate form of self-mastery lies in searching for answers on your own, relying on nothing external.
2) You think for yourself rather than sheepishly accepting other people’s ideas.
3) You value your individual experience over the knowledge gained from everything else.
4) That’s why reading isn’t enough, you must apply what makes sense to you and learn from it first-hand.
5) You value personal intuition, because you know, relying on general opinions, you would end up a frail, inept copy with no real self-worth.

6) You know, the lack of conviction would not result in innovative ideas, but in accepting what you’ve been taught and identifying with it as a whole.
7) In other words, you inevitably end up believing the nonsense of others. Their ignorance spreads over to you, if you don’t make up your own mind.
8) Idealy you form your opinion on lots of research from reliable sources, sticking to facts, logic and persuasive arguments.
9) You’re a unique, authentic individual who trusts his gut and understands the profound power of a built-in, bold and robust creative force.
10) You understand that staying true to yourself, doing what you think is right, is a necessity for true happiness. You value authenticity and defend your stance in a world of mediocrity, in order to keep leading.

I can't believe how incredible blessed I am to have come across your videos... Most times it takes me forever to get through books because I'm pretty much ADD(all over the place). I consider myself more of a visual learner and can break down videos a lot quicker than I can process text. These videos are incredible and I appreciate you so much for taking the time and effort to create these. With the way I learn information, these videos are everything I've been looking for and needing.... thank you.

Dear (soon-to-be) leaders,

I've been waiting to put this one out for months now. I could dive deeper into the tactics of the video, but that's what the video's for. I'd like to add to the somewhat vague, negative sentiment I expressed towards my "upbringing."

*You're either pushed out of your nest forcefully or you have to jump, while you can, on your own terms.* I realize some of you reading this have had a tough past, I would consider myself no stranger to hardships. It is difficult to see the good in it, when you're not out yet. Some experiences we've had, the ones we never talk about, have been traumatic & unjust, but please do not forget one important fact - *you* are still standing. You could've given up a long time ago. You have people surrounding you who complain all day about nothing, about problems you wish were yours. They would've never endured what you've been through. You've built up thick skin by pushing through that resistance you were forced onto by your environment, by things out of your control.

This is where we need to draw the line, when the common self-help advice pops up. "It's always your fault." Heck, I know I've said this myself... and I do believe in it. It's a helpful mindset. It makes you take responsibility & while others cowardly fingerpoint, you take action & do something about the situation like a true leader does instinctively, regardless whether or not it actually was your fault... but some of the horrible things that happen to real victims, the silent ones, in this world, are in no way the victim's fault. You'll hear me say "The world is upside down." a lot & this is one of the reasons.

Our society has allowed professional victims, the most priviledged, most advantaged & despicable parasites, to get on stage, cry in to the mic infront of millions of people for how bad they have it, fundraise hundreds of thousands of dollars for their cult... and oftentimes, they blame the real & innocent victims of crimes they themselves are committing, in which a massive, blinded crowd fueled by misdirected anger participates. I'm starting to feel my inner rage build up again. I cannot stand true injustice. It was my personal experiences in school, the office & overall life that made the 48 laws of power resonate with me so deeply that I wanted to create 60 videos on them.

I realize, some of you reading this need help, you need someone to reassure you of certain truths, someone you can borrow ideas from, someone who understands where you're coming from, because he's no different. I hope to be that person, even if it's just for one single individual among you, I'll feel like I've contributed to someone else's life in a meaningful way, which makes my life meaningful & my struggles worth the fight. What significance has my enduring all the pain if I don't help others in need like I would've wanted someone to help me, when I needed it the most.

That being said. When people get to know me & can't believe that I'm only 22 years old. When the girl I date demands to see my ID to check for herself, it is all thanks to self-reliance. It is, because no one ever helped me & thus I had to help myself in all matters of life, since I was about 10. Not only did I not get any support, I faced a lot of abuse to make things worse. I've been through hell & I wish I hadn't been, but wishful thinking doesn't change anything. I'm not proud of people underestimating me, because of my age. I understand that I'd be a complete softy if it had been the opposite. There's just so many immature losers among my peers that I stand out like a purple cow.

I want you to know that you are not alone & that others do care. We need to speak up, but the right way to go about it isn't safe-spaces, trigger warnings & refusing to grow the fuck up, but to face reality, to face your fears & to knock them out once and for all. You have everything you need in this lifetime at your disposal. It is just a matter of stepping up!

I wish you a great day full of clarity & a bright future full of fulfilled promises. List a handful of s.m.a.r.t. goals, assume responsibility, inform yourself, know where you're going & make your own decisions.

Thank you all.
- Nenad (illacertus)

The phrase, "Every time you choose safety, you reinforce fear, " is this a quote in the book or your own? It's unbelievably powerful and explains a lot for people who avoid the very choices that can make one authentic and self-reliant.

These videos are not for everyone. In older times they wouldn't even be allowed for the plebes to watch. Great information from authors that gave a gift to humanity.

Keep up the great work!

I'm currently doing a 15 month military cadetship, away from home in another country and this is helping me loads. It's good to find people on the same mental frequency. All one need sometimes is to be reminded of what they've been through. Everything becomes clear afterwards. Much obliged

There's a fine and dangerous line when it comes to leadership between accepting responsibility for another's failure as your own and merely creating entitlement through conflict avoidance.
Certain people do not possess the ability to be led, they are poison. Accepting responsibility for their failures is not leadership.

I once read 70 books in one month. _It was all about quantity_ I have a few books I study constantly, dozens and dozens of times, with notes. I told everyone: "You will not be hearing from me in November, because I'm reading."

Quality vs quantity is also an experience. 65 discarded books / 5 great books.

Wonderful video sir, I was raised like yourself and see how my attempts to take all evils of my past and prevent them from affecting my own is damaging them. Amazing how love will corrupt a child as they are unable to process their reality feeling their entitled. Parents are meant to protect children from harm not life, we are guides, teachers and leaders not welfare states or royal kingdoms to pass down.

this video is fantastic and I appreciate all the work you put in these! Thank you so very much from a very grateful lbookworm lady in California.

This definitely hits me in a way I don't think I ever have been before. You certainly know how to give not only sound advice, but also know how to boost moral and actually start giving people confidence in themselves and not bending to the will of those around them. This is definitely a one of kind video.

That was incredible. I came looking for a short version of transcendentalism and learnt so much, even if it is a small part of the total picture. I can now apply the knowledge I have learnt in this video to my own studies and to my paper,
