Ableton Workflow Tips That Will Save You Time

In this 6 part video series we will be covering some of the basics of building out your own Ableton Live production template. We'll go over how to create custom Midi, Audio, and External Instrument channels - optimized with your favorite plugins. We'll also cover custom return effect strips and learn a handful of workflow tips along the way.
Video 1
This video will cover how to set default tempo, launch quantization, and time signature. Also will go over how to drop and sequence effects on master track and build out basic master channel template. We will also go over how to group and save this as a preset that can be used for later.
Video 2
Next we will go over building out the basic building blocks for your tracks. I’ll cover how to create a template for Midi, Audio, External Instrument, and External Input tracks. Plus how to organize, name, color code and put in spacers to keep your tracks looking clean and uniform. I will also show how to save these all as defaults so that each new audio or Midi track created will have the same plugins when created.

After that I will cover how to create custom FX return tracks to fit your needs and how to implement them in more creative ways than Ableton’s default mode.
Video 4
This video I will cover a couple of tips on how to optimize Ableton preferences to fit your needs and also how to save all of our changes as the default project when you open Live. We’ll touch on different features including Look and Feel tabs, Default launch/warp modes, custom folders, and Midi latency correction.
Video 5
Next I will cover how to use collections on the left side browser in Live. You will be able to organize commonly used plugins and also compile some of the default settings we have made into a file system that can allow for more modular template building.
Video 6
Finally I will go over a few quick tips in the arrangement view that can help for workflow and organization. You will learn how to use locators, groups within groups, and a couple handy ways to arrange your tracks using the insert/delete/duplicate time commands.
