At 14:20 when they find the gun, revolvers typically aren’t ever equipped with silencers as the round is not in an enclosed chamber so the sounds aren’t funneled in one direction so a silencer wouldn’t do much of anything. I get it’s Japan and they have low crime rates but it does surprise me how a lot of police carry .38 special revolvers instead of 9mm magazine handguns. Never hurt to be safe imo

Tbh big and main reason Takashi's group survived was due to the fact that the zombies in their world were indeed walking corpses. They were totally blind, could easily be distracted by sounds and aside from their crazy strength, were slow and incredibly sloppy, unlike zombies from movies or games that could run, climb, and often even showed intelligence and fighting instincts. These zombies in this world were pretty weak tbh; which made sense, because a bunch of teenager wouldn't had survived against fast and crazy moving zombies. If the story ever continued, I could see humanity eventually making a comeback, taking huge advantage of the fact the zombies only react ed to sound. I also believe the blonde nurse's would eventually come true (the zombies rotting till they couldn't move).

In a parallel universe, we got two more seasons, another OVA and even a movie of Highschool of the Dead. Someone quickly create a portal gun and find that universe!!!

4:19 silencers wouldn’t help, they are commonly misrepresented in media as significantly lowering the sound to a small tapping noise however their primary purpose is simply to dull the sound so that it does not deafen the shooter if anything you’d want to make it louder so that it might deafen the zombies thus making them completely directionless or at least making your location less precise to the zombies

Pro tip: if you’re not the main character or a potential love interest, just end it quickly. This applies to most anime.
Edit: You fools do not understand the true power of non essential anime characters. The uninteresting boring side characters with no lives/generic backgrounds/are really good at video games are always the ones that get issekai’d

One of the things I loved about HODT is how well balanced their group was. They had a-

-Medic (school nurse)

-Two brawler / close quarters (guy with a bat and girl with a sword)

-Medium range fighter (girl with a polearm / spear)

-Long ranger fighter (guy whose good with guns)

-And a hoity toity rich I mean a strategist. (just kidding Takagi is my favorite character)

I REEEEALY wish the author didn't die (rest in peace my G) and the story could have been finished. If this was made more seriously... with less fanservice and more grit this would have been one of the best zombie related shows ever made.

Could you imagine this show with AOT budget and scope? Finally getting out of the city only to discover that it was some plot launched by terrorists...or an accident at some chem / bio lab... Spend a 6 month time skip training with the cops / military, the nurse's cop friend and Hirano's parents (if you pay close attention you to everything Hirano says he claims that when he was younger his parents took him to America where they ran training exercises with "special ops Who the HELL are his parents to be training with spec ops?). The writer was setting this story up to be something AMAZING I could tell.

Man to this day I still mourn the loss of hotd artist and writer Daisuke Sato. Hotd even incomplete is one of my top 5 all time manga and anime both. RIP Daisuke you and your legendary anime tiddies and ultranationalism were too pure for this world.

This anime is such an important one for me. I saw it as a kid and had my parents buy me the manga and would read it and bring it with me everyday at school. I loved this series, I was caught up with and bought each new volume at release and it broke my heart finding out why it'll never be finished. RIP Daisuke Sato, there was a genuinely great story here.

I wish there could have been a season 2. Too bad the show’s creator died of a heart attack. This anime was awesome and I hope some studio picks it back up and makes a season 2 someday.

So, one thing to consider is how the skin of an individual rapidly becomes a dark gray which could be useful to find out what is happening internally with the zombies. Examining our friends body is a good start, but ultimately we should be concerning ourselves with the immediate threat over the long term one. From information we've already seen age is likely a big factor in zombification time with the older teachers becoming zombies almost instantly while we see multiple younger students, not just our recently deceased friend surviving for much longer before turning. However, the most important part of this is finding a way to protect ourselves against infection first by finding out how strong they are because sure they are slow, but if they only have standard human levels of strength we should be looking to get our hands on some leather jackets or if that isn't available some bed liner along with other kinds of protection to prevent bites.

5:50 The zombie cases at the gate were bitten in places that had major arteries. Along the wrist and on the neck. Which may be why they turned as quickly as they did. In most zombie movies there are two parts of the virus. The part that animates the corpse and the part that prepares that body (killing the infected person). In HOTD it seems the animation part is quicker than the killing part.

2:05 that's actually really smart, if you know what they are. Since they are slow moving, he could have easily Usain bolted down there with a weapon and killed them. Then barricaded the entrance. These zombies can't climb, so once you killed the few of em near the entrance, you'd be good. Takashi had plenty of time to do this, because it was several minutes after he made it to the classroom that the outbreak started to spread inside the building.

I can only imagine how epic the future chapters could’ve been with the introduction of Takashi’s mom and Rei’s father, other police officers, and them having a handful of firearms, as well as the SAT girl bringing an entire stockpile, that elementary school would’ve been a good fortified position than the mansion and we probably have some sort of war between the school and the neighborhood association that denied Rei’s mom

As much as I love this anime, you do have to admit that these are the easy mode zombies. They can't even see. This should, by all rights, be just about the easiest zombie Apocalypse to survive.
