A business in Kent has bypassed the expensive mess that the previous government made of brexit checks and built their own facilities. But most businesses can't afford to do this, so the Labour government now need to get a grip and make sure we can actually carry out checks. One of the problems with the rich flag-shagging Brexiteers who spoke about "taking back control of our borders" is that those Brexiteers were the same people, buying up British factories and moving the work abroad to places where they could pay workers less.

There used to be two food factories and a toy factory near me. Now they are gone. Where do we actually have people making stuff to use, let alone export.

I do fully empathise with people who saw their local areas getting run down and who were fooled by the lies of the Brexiteers. But I've got zero time for Champaign-chugging people who pretend to be the "voice of the working man", while squirreling away money in foreign bank accounts and hedge funds. Those people all knew they were talking BS. It was all done to get us out of the EU, before anti-corruption laws would stop them from screwing us over. And they conned the very people they had been ripping off into voting to leave the economic union that had the back of working people.

Dyson donated money to the Brexit campaign, while screwing over the British work force that made him rich. I'm never buying another Dyson. The boss of Warbutons backed Brexit. I've quit buying his bread. Unless he makes the company a workers cooperative and quits, I'm never buying from them again either. I'm done with Brexiteer traitors.

If our government had any sense, they would have extended HS1 all the way to Cardiff and Scotland, freed up capacity on the mainlines for slower commuter trains and freight trains and we would be importing goods by train and getting the customs checks done at various freight yards around the UK. If something from France needs to go to Scotland, just send it straight to Scotland.

All is well and good but here's the thing. What makes you think you have any entitlement at all to trade with the EU under anything but the strictest terms, which they of course will dictate.
Honestly, I believe the EU has so far been quite patient with the British over Brexit considering what the Tory Party did. The EU offered them a quite remarkable deal under the circumstances and that paste-faced Frost and his posse of headbangers basically told them to piss off. The Uk has never once negotiated with the EU in good faith even when we were members about anything and never had any intention of doing so leaving no one in any doubt that the EU has not taken this into account.
Starmer claims to want closer ties, but only on his terms, he publically sets redlines before even talking to the EU poisoning the well before a word is spoken, trails off to meeting with various EU leaders trying his best to sew division in the ranks and thinks the rest are not watching what he is doing or what was said is not going to be reported back.
The Uk has nothing the EU either wants or needs on any level and they put themselves in that position on purpose so it's a bit rich now for them to start bleating things are not going well for them.
For once in their miserable thugish history, they actually got exactly what they wanted and the rest of the world is quite happy about that so it's about time the British people started to look at this from the outside in for a change. The EU sees the Uk as being a corrupt, divided and endemically fractious country with the impression it is somehow special in the world currently with a small minority living far above its pay grade supported by a financial system with so many holes in it the only people who want to put money there at the crime syndicates and tax dodgers. They are seen as financial pirates, non-conformists and troublemakers simply out for what they can get as long as they don't have to pay for it. Lording it over an oppressed and ignorant people who are currently having to foot the bill for all of this garbage and the EU wants to see change both socially and politically before they will even consider any closer ties with them and why would we be surprised about that.
The Uk elites have never been comfortable inside the EU unless they are getting something on the side and the moment they were told the gig is up and you either toe the line or pay the fine they buggered off with their football and have spent the past decade hurling shit at the EU, or rather making out it's the people that are hurling the shit so they can keep their hands clean. I mean what do the people actually know about Europe apart from that at one time you could go to Spain, get pissed and behave like a lout so they are angry they can't do that anymore, boo hoo!
The Uk is your country and if you are quite happy to put in power people whose only interest is in how much money they can stuff in their own pockets before the other lot want a turn do not be surprised if the world looks on in mild but very distanced wonder as to what sort of education you ever got in you lives that you continue to accept this.
You either want in the EU or you want out. either way, there are fixed consequences you cannot ignore and it's up to you to make certain your politicians are doing what you want and not what is politically advantageous for them as is currently the case but don't expect to get any freebies out of the EU, they don't trust you anymore and it's going to take a very long time and not inconsiderable efforts on your part to change that view.
