Research talk for the Eighteeenth Annual Workshop on Combinatorial and Additive Number Theory (Zoom conference hosted by the CUNY Graduate Center)

The difficulty of this talk is pitched to advanced undergraduate and graduate students.

Abstract: If the finite group G acts on a finite set X, then G may be rep- resented by a subgroup of permutation matrices, which in turn generate an algebra of semi-magic matrices. Recall that a semi-magic matrix is a square matrix with complex coefficients whose rows and columns have a common line sum. In the case of dihedral groups, we apply character theory to re- cover the known counting formula for semi-magic matrices with fixed line sum and coefficients in the natural numbers.

Hello Doctor Bob! My name is K and I'm an Engineering graduate now. I graduated last 2017 with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering. My peers and I thrived off on your videos cause our math professors back then wanted us to be more independent and do our own research. I'm sure glad it was you whom we stumbled across back in 2011! I remember back when it was just you and a few other teachers on youtube back in the day. 9 years sure flew by so quickly! Anyway, I wanted to say your videos helped me a lot to pass key prerequisute subjects back in college and I wanted to tell you also how good of an impact you have within this community. In a way, I owe my degree to you. I hope you are doing well despite the pandemic. Cheers!
