Pretty much Every inline 6 has been known for being very reliable. Too reliable. Auto companies weren't making money fixing them.

Inline 6’s inherently have more torque than V6’s. I have a Jeep 4.0L and it’s torquey and bulletproof. Bring back inline 6’s!!

Straight 6s are more torquey than v6s. Reason they are going away is they don't easily fit in fwd cars. V6 Is easier to package into multiple platforms.

First time ever I hear someone say v6 has more torque than inline 6. lol

V6 more torque than I6? Scotty man you're losing it

The numbers might not have been big, but those old sixes made smooth torque all the way down. Ford's and the Jeep 4.0 were both great runners.

Rev up your...straight six. 2JZ if you’re about the life.

I had a F150 with a inline 6 cylinder. It was a good engine.

lol, oh Scotty, I6's have always been high torque, pure physics. They all use long connecting rods. And horsepower has always been fairly good too. Most older I6's were severely under carburetor-ed. In '67, a 292 Chevy produced nearly 300 Lbs Ft torque, with 170 HP. Not bad for a engine with a 230 CFM carb. Slap on a 350 CFM Holley 2 barrel, Clifford aluminum intake, Clifford split headers, and that number jumps to around 350 Lbs Ft of torque, and around 225 HP. Add a Crane 0.450 lift cam, Dual springs, 3 way valve cut, decked head, flat tops, and you just broke 400 Lbs Ft torque, and around 300 HP, with fairly decent gas mileage. A haulers dream at the time. (and that's using points / condenser).
I built and raced I6's for over 12 years, the only problems with I6's is the factory setups.

And the main reason they stopped manufacturing them, space. Ever try to get a I6 in a front wheel drive car?

Forgive me, but a V6 engine does not inherantly produce any more torque or horse power than a straight 6 of the same displacement. Compare BMW's sixes to equivalent size V6's from it's competitors.

Just put a turbo on a straight 6 cyl to get that extra hp and torque. Straight 6's are the sweetest, smoothest running engines ever made.

The Ford 300 was the best engine ever made in terms of reliability, at least in my opinion it was. My boss still has a '95 F-150 with that engine and he just rolled over 700k miles. I think he said the only repair it ever needed was the water pump once or twice. I've never met any I-6 engine I didn't like, every brand seems to have made good ones.

Had a Ford Granada 1977. Had a 250 in-line six. So simple to fix, a kid could work on it. Indestructible. It’s like the whole car was made by Fisher Price. You couldn’t break it!

I won't be letting my '89 4.0 XJ Cherokee go anytime soon. Sweet, sweet I6.

My uncle was an engineer for MCI, the bus manufacturer. He said the inline six was his favorite engine. Before he worked for MCU, he never saw them wear out in all of his years in the race car industry.

your info on inline 6's is a bust. please look up Australia's inline 6 barra engine. they can handle massive power and have heaps of torque.
