AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D Review: Wait for the 7800X3D?

The Ryzen 9 7950X3D review is here, AMD is ready to take on Intel's mighty Raptor Lake. Bringing the latest upgrades to the Ryzen 7000 "Zen 4" family, this processor rocks 3D Vertical Cache technology along with a massive 16-core/32-thread count, and its makers claim that it levels up to the Core i9-13900K both in gaming and multi-threaded productivity, making it the most powerful desktop processor you can buy from the AMD camp. The best part? It's being launched at the same $700 MSRP as the standard 7950X, which is now $50-75 cheaper in the market; and remains drop-in compatible with Socket AM5 motherboards. Is this the CPU you've been looking for or should you wait for the 7800X3D?

Linustechtips found out that you need memory with tighter timings on Ryzen, so its worth it to tweak your timings if you wanna do that or just get memory with the lowest possible CL.

The small difference to the 13900k I think comes from this.

It helps to go to the full review link, it will explain what they pulled their data from. Basically it comes down to if you play old games and need that difference between 400 and 408 frames per second get the 13900k, if you play new games and you really need to move from 119 to 121 FPS get the 7950x3d. Basically the only real difference to move these charts one direction or the other is Spiderman remastered is like 8 frames a second faster (151 fps vs 158 fps) on the 13900k. What I actually want to see is tell me what processor will make Warhammer 3 load faster, and make the turns quicker.... Because a few frames per second one way or the other really will not change my life in the least.

You guys need details, not just relative perf. charts. Other reviewers post the actual results or show the measurements live, and their results show otherwise. Some even have it compared and winning against 13900KS, depending on the game though

lol, well I will be keeping my 5800x3d. Maybe when something "better" comes out I will go to AM5.

Sure. Wait for the 7800X3d. Or get the 7950X3d now and just disable the non v-cache CCD in your BIOS and have a 7800X3d now.. with the option of having far better multicore performance.

Best for single PC streaming alongside a 4090? I'm assuming I'll be choosing between the 7950X3D and 13900K.

Follow your website since ages, but never really your YT channel. Should add 1% lows to our data boy, but much love and subbed anyway!

The question on my mind is this. While playing games (1080P / 1440P), I want to stream over the GPU (RTX 4080 )and record video on the CPU at the same time. According to this scenario, should I buy 7950X or 7950X3D?

In short, I mean. When there is X264 load on the CPU. Does the 7950X3D lose more performance than the 7950X due to the core CCD structure?

I doubt the Ryzen 7 7800X3D will outperform the Ryzen 9 7950X3D - AMD made sure of that by lowering clock speeds. But it may be within 10% of it and that kind of performance difference is not much for humans when using the computer. Benchmarks are good pointers as they are highly sensitive but human beings are less so. One thing is for sure - humans will detect the price difference between the two chips. That was why AMD delayed the release of the cheaper part!

In your Test System list, I believe the Bios you are on for the Hero is 0922 not 9922. (Unless you got some sort of Beta bios they haven't released on their site to the public).

what about 7900x3d, is it worth buying if i dont want to wait for 7800x3d

Its not worth the extra £150.00 for the lower TDP and extra gaming performance in some select titles.

Anyone looking to get a normal 7950x for mixed workloads gaming and creation should just get it. Those that are solely looking for gaming should wait for 7800x3d but will have to wait until April - AMD is really trying to pull a fast one

What is best to buy? 7950x3d or i9 13900KF? I only stream and game on my pc. Nothing else. Also i have a 3090 and a 850psu🤷

Dang. I got my 7900X only 2 days ago with 32GB and B650E mobo for $600 at microcenter. Although it was a great deal, I wish I waited for 2 more days XD I hope Ryzen 9000 series or whatever comes next has much bigger leap than 7000 X3D :)

Hardware Unboxed proved that ram speed and latency affects amd 7000 series a lot. But this test made with CL36 to make 7950x3D and intel parts looks better than normal. There is minimum of %5 performance difference between CL36 6000mhz ddr5 and CL30 6000 mhz for Amd 7000 series non x3D CPUs.

You have to update BIOS and use the XBox Game Bar in Windows to get optimal gaming performance out of the 7950X3D, and presumably the 7900X3D. It seems like AMD is trying to cash in on a "kludge" solution. The decision by AMD to hold off on releasing the 7800X3D for several weeks has me (and probably about 99% or the community) asking: What the heck? The only, possible, silver lining for the community, in my opinion, is that when the 7800X3D launches, AMD might actually produce enough product to meet the demand during the probably high demand first few weeks of the release. Not holding my breath, and not really even worried about upgrading. My current CPU gets the job done, and I do not make a living doing CPU intensive work.

I think tech reviewers should start to add more of 1% low to their charts. It indicates the game will run smoother or not, even though both CPUs / system have the same fps high.

Best explanation… every other tech tuber … the new gaming king haha …

It is nice. But if I had a 4090 or 7900XTX, I would never want to play in a resolution, which was standard 15 years ago. And for 4k or 3440X1440, Do not matter if you have a 7900X or any X3D or Intel I9. Entirely pointless to get 600 Dollar CPU. GPU matters most. I get it to test a CPU. It is okay to use low resolution, but it is pointless for a real word scenario.

So in 4k gaming you get a whole 4% uplift while losing potentially 10% in productivity due to restricted voltage on OC, so no way to boost the VF curves.
Who is this CPU for ?
A gamers who creates ? A creator who games ? A random who only runs games in 1080p and but also renders on the side ?
