On top of that, it left the perfect amount to weld a perfect cover pass. I've been a welder/fabricator for 32yrs and I would have no problem with this technique! Well done my friend.

Finally, some more informative welding videos. Before nobody would show you how to do it like it’s some kind of secret.

Fact is as the man says " If the WPS allows it then it is acceptable"
I watch a lot of these videos and the comments, rarely if ever is WPS mentioned, or downhand (stoving), preheat, interpass temp, etc,
This leads me to believe that there are not many top professional welders commenting.

I’m not a welder but I can appreciate that welding technique and the skill that goes into this . Guys welding is top ten most important professions in the world, be proud of what you do!

If the center is thinner then it doesn't need as much heat as the sides. Approved 👍

I wanted to become a better welder. It's not what I do for a living so I bought a bunch of pipe coupons. It definitely helped me learn to weld out of position if I only get to set the pipe in one position but I have trouble with running stringers for my cap instead of a weave.

Perfecto ! I like to run a quick 5/32 6010 hot pass about 160amps. Then flush it out with 3/16” 7018 at around 240, just below flush then hit it with 1/4” 7018 at around 295 amps for that cap.
