Cleaned the coils on mine and ever since it's having trouble cooling, almost like it ran better with fur plugging up the coils, doesn't make any sense to me ?

my fridge is not getting cold enough but NOT running all the time. I have had no luck finding anyone addressing this problem. Running all the time is easy to keep troubleshooting, but if it is cycling... seems like the refrigerator thinks it is getting cool enough and shutting off. I have cold control to coldest in food compartment and damper in freezer to least cold so cold air should be maxing into refrigerated compartment... nevertheless the thermometer i put on the bottom shelf says temp is above 40 degrees and my milk is not as cold as it should be. So I immediately suspect a thermostat ( cold control ) that is 'off'...NOT completely broken, just not reading temperature right. No one talks about this. For cold controls they say they are either stuck ON or stuck OFF. I just checked continuity in cold control and seems to be conducting thru all range of temp settings. That seems to make sense for a working thermostat. Even at the least cold setting, 40+ degrees is too warm and compressor should be trying to run. Now I am trying to figure out what is keeping compressor from coming on ( or cutting OFF prematurely ) if the cold control is working properly. I was thinking maybe a hard start for compressor is necessary, but i would think i would hear the compressor struggling to turn ON or fans would be running, neither of which seems to be the case. Can defective parts cause it to think it is in defrost cycle when it's not ? ideas ???

UPDATE: i was able to check cold control with compressor not running. Cold control switch was not closed so fridge is doing what cold control says, which means cold control IS the issue. I have now jumpered past control just to make sure my fridge pulls down to acceptable temps. I am curious as to why no one on-line talks about this issue. I suspect sensing bulb of switch has a super small leak so it is not sensing temperature correctly.

Although bad gaskets and dirty coils are important to address, IF your compressor is not running all the time, they are not going to be the main cause an insufficiently cooling refrigerator.

I just did all this in the back and vacuumed all the dust I could. It is now plugged back in and i'm waiting to see if it gets cold enough. If it does not, could this be a freon issue or a thermostat issue?

Hi my defy chest freezer is building ice on the top, not freezing at the bottom, as a result my meat is not frozen

what if the fridge is not cooling well then the coils in the freezer section are iced over. Is there not something that defrosts these coils? The fridge is a Kitchenaid KTRP18kdWH07

Even on max cold my freezer only gets down to about 8 degrees F. It’s my understanding it should be zero or lower correct? I’ve noticed this because my ice maker doesn’t produce ice as fast as it should. It’s not running all the time, could it just need a cleaning?
