A few months ago I designed and made the first version of my plank system. Its main feature is a growing 'window' which has an area for root growth making it so much easier to chop and extend

You’re a real inventor Jeff; you designed the portable shower, the extendible wood plank & even the leaded soil probe✏️. Thanks for sharing Jeff!

i am actually using a similar technique. I am growing both my verrucosum and paraiso using only a bamboo stake and clear plastic cups filled with perlite around a few nodes. I use 3-6 ounce cups depending on the plant size. There is some cutting of the cups so it can wrap around the plant and bamboo stake but it is simple enough. every few days i add water to the cup if needed. This is similar to the procedure for propogating a top cut ... The main reason i do this is i really dislike working with moss ... and its also a lot cheaper using clear plastic cups instead of the expensive poles...it does the sme thing...

Water bottled halved looks like a good idea!

I LOVE the modular plank design! I have been wavering between ways to grow some plants vertically, considering different benefits and care requirements. This is a great solution to my desire to "chop & extend, " but without the watering obligations of a full moss pole. 👍

Can we have a dubbed-in mini 'shriek' every time you slice through a stem please Jeff? I think it would add an extra dimension to your propagation videos :) It always amazes me how plants have that will to re-grow, survive & flourish embedded in their DNA. You are surrounded by very happy plants ~ they looks so healthy and thriving!

Thanks so much. I have no problem with repotting. I tend to do it sooner than plants needed it and then I get root rot have to be more careful.

I think your plank method with the expansion method with screws and your dowel method to keep them in line. Great innovations.

I like your concept. You should get the credit and $ for that idea/invention.

Excellent experiment, keep trying. My planked Baltic Blue has grown up its 64 inch plank. I’m going to have to decide what my next move is. Always great info. Thanks

As specific as possible, would you mind sharing how to get the wood planks you use? Or the cheapest way to get planks that would work for plants?

I am impressed. The question I have is the wood in the soil, won’t it rot?

Looks great! I wonder how it would compare to simply using a flat plank and taping the bottle with moss over the front of the node.
