Baby Mario and Luigi have toad eyes cause in Mario and Luigi: Partners in time. The eyes become different when they shocked. If they put there parents eyes, it would basically mean that they were shocked.

Mario’s dad in the movie was modeled after Mario’s dad who was unused in the games so that they could put a Mario refrence in Zelda without it bieng literally Mario. And it’s probably just a coincidence that their eyes look like toads eyes because their eyes change when they grow up unlike the people from the mushroom kingdom who’s don’t.

They did that because the baby are from older Mario games and those older game didn’t have enough pixels do fit the full eyes on the small baby sprites so they made them black

No guys, their eyes are like that because of their original design. In EVERY Mario game where there are Baby Mario and Baby Luigi, they have that black eyes. Even in Yoshi's Island, Mario Kart... C'mon.
