7 Divided by 1/3 (Seven Divided by One-Third)

To divide 7 by 1/3 we can either multiply the first fraction by its reciprocal OR we could find a common denominator for both fractions. In this video we'll use the reciprocal method. Both methods produce the same answer in fraction form.

First we change 7 ÷ 1/3

to

7 times 3/1 (7 x 3/1)

This gives us 21/1 which is equal to 21.

So 7 ÷ 1/3 = 21/1 also written as 21.

Note that if you multiplied 21 times 1/3 you would end with 7.

Multiplying a fraction by its reciprocal is often easier for more complicated fractions where finding a common denominator is more challenging.
