Another option are the boonie hats with a mosquito net built in.
They are much cooler than gaiters, and the break up the outline of your face and head tremendously well.

I also dont like neck gaiters. Pro tip for folks: if you dont have face paint, grab some local dirt/mud and wipe it all over your face and hands.

We were taught in OSUT to NEVER use a tiger stripe or similar pattern, and it was demonstrated to us that it could actually make someone more visible. We were taught small splotches only.

As a USAF Security Policeman, I would wear a camouflage handkerchief as a face covering at night while on patrol in the washout on the east side of base at Clark AB, Philippines, because it doubled as mosquito protection.

I was in the Marines when we wore all leather black boots. I just used my black shoe polish (BLAQUED face) and rubbed mud/dirt on it.

In Vietnam...spec ops guys would mix bug spray into the paint they wore on their face and arms.
