Today Apple is viewed as a juggernaut of a tech company. And it is. With a market value of 1.8 trillion dollars the company became the most valuable in the world as of July 2020. But things haven’t always been this way. At one point, Apple was on the brink of bankruptcy. But there was one product Apple released that helped turn the tide and set them on course for success. That was the iMac and in this video I’m going to explain how it helped save the company.

In my opinion one of the smartest moves Apple ever made was writing Windows software for iPod. This opened the Apple experience to a massive new group of consumers.

You're so right. The iMac is different from most desktop pcs. And I like it.

Small correction (timestamp: 0:50 ) the Apple II was released in '77, not '97. Great video btw!

I was in a CompUSA computer store mid 90s. They had a sad little corner of the score dedicated to those old beige Macs. I'll never forget a guy saying 'Apple is done, stick a fork in em.' Had I gone out and bought 1k of shares that very day, it would be worth 663k today.

That is one hell of a transition to a sponsor.

Typical Steve Jobs, insisting on higher quality/beautiful design even if that means higher production cost!

Everyone agrees in something: Jobs being the CEO of Apple was the most important part of the whole history.

I had a dream last night that Apple Explained uploaded a podcast but unfortunately it was just a dream.

Still have my iMac G3 in 2020. Speakers need to be replaced but I upgraded the memory and storage to their max values. This iMac was originally purchased because I was interested in iMovie and iTunes and had no interest to moving from Windows to a Mac. But it actually was the first of many Apple products for me. This iMac DV from 2001 runs great and no fan like the new MacBook Air.

Greg, I like your story telling and format a lot. Have you considered going into longer format documentary work?

0:53 the apple ii came out in 1977, not 1997 and reached end of production 1993. Unless you meant a different apple computer.

But awesome video!

My favorite iMac at that time were the clear blue ones. Back in the early 2000s my elementary school was full of those iMacs. No PCs anywhere on campus, it wasn't til high school that i started seeing and using PCs and windows regularly in school. But at my high school we had both Macs and PCs, macs for the more advanced classes like digital photography and production departments along with the science classes and we used windows for the computer programming and computer networking classes as well as in the computer labs

There were 13 colors of the iMac G3 which were

Bondi Blue, Blueberry, Grape, Tangerine, Lime, Strawberry, Graphite, Ruby, Sage, Indigo, Snow, Blue Dalmatian and Flower Power.

My favorite is either Strawberry or Ruby

However when the original was released in 1998 it only came in Bondi Blue the other colors came later on
