Add Surround Speakers to Any Soundbar - A Complete Guide!

The most common question I get is "how can I add surround speakers to my soundbar"? This video completely answers that question!

How to Add Surround Speakers to a Soundbar
1) Use natively compatible speakers if possible (best)
2) Use the Insignia Universal Rear Speaker Kit (okay)
3) Use a wireless speaker kit with various splitters/adapters (okay)

My overall suggestion is to either :
1) use natively compatible speakers with your soundbar.
2) If your soundbar cannot use surround speakers natively, then you should purchase a soundbar that comes with or is capable of using surround speakers.

Here are some soundbars that are capable of adding surround speakers:

This is from Livewire...When the digital optical connection was developed, it was made to accommodate the digital audio standards at the time (mainly 2-channel CD playback). Thus, digital audio signals such as 5.1/7.1 multi-channel PCM, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS:X, and Auro 3D Audio cannot be transferred via digital optical connections. These types of audio signal formats require the use of HDMI connections.

New subscriber. A whole lot of information. Mostly over my head. I’m going to have to revisit this video several more times for better clarity. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. 👍🏾👍🏾

At 3:54 you mentioned only one brand has discrete true surround rear audio. I have had a Vizio soundbar for years now that came with 2 rear speakers that are true rear channels. I'm actually looking for a way to duplicate the sound coming out of the soundbar, to come out of my rear speakers for added sound, not the background noise I get with surround sound.

Pro logic, pro logic ii (x and x) are all Surround mixed in a 2 ch adio stream.
Its done by matrix the audio, and play it out of phase (difference between the speakers) with a delay, in later pro logic ii and on theres a lot more to it. If you want to acces a Surround track easy, you take the plus from a stereo set, and place them in minus and plus on a speaker, this is the Surround track though without delay, this is how it was done way back.

Did you ever find a better updated version or way to get rear wireless speakers ?

I've got old speakers mounted in he ceiling. The only connection to them is 2 white cables coming out of the wall with exposed wire. How would I go about connecting these to my new TV/soundbar, or is it even possible?

I wonder, is it possible to add additional speakers to the set that comes with the rear speakers?

The auxiliary input must be using Dolby pro logic 2 decoding (or something similar), and outputing the surround channels to the surround speakers.

I have an old technics receiver (no HDMI, no pre-outs, no optical fiber audio, only RCA), a Samsung Smart TV and a JBL Soundbar. Is there a way to connect all the 3 together? I thought about connecting the soundbar via HDMI ARC and the receiver via optical audio (using a digital to analog adapter), however there is no way the TV software is able to understand that setup 😂

Question, I have a receiver with wired speakers going to it. I would like to get rid of the receiver but keep all of my wired speakers but I'm not sure if it is possible. The reason why I want to get rid of my receiver it doesn't always work right.

Once rear speakers are connected with a soundbar and volume is set, do they react to the main volume from the soundbar, or you're forced to use 2 remotes (one for soundbar and the Insignia one for the rear speakers)? Many thanks!

When same transmission of audio in speakers it’s called analog audio… in simple terms analog vs digital audio… back in the days there was amplifier that had crossover… to where u could cut either treble or bass to a speaker
