I was diagnosed with scoliosis in mid-late 2018 and in early January 2019 I was supposed to fly to England to get a special back brace fitted, but the week before I was told by doctors overseas that analysed my curvature that it was way too severe for a brace to help it and that I’d would have to have the surgery in order to live as my lung capacity was extremely low and I was having a very hard time breathing. A few months later I had the surgery, and many complications came with it, and by this point, my spine was curved just over 100 degrees. I went into cardiac arrest a few times and went into respiratory failure as they found out I was severely allergic to morphine. I’m well now! I have to wear a medical bracelet now after all of that and I lost quite a bit of mobility, but I am very grateful that I had the facilities to help my scoliosis. And luckily, my back is almost straight now! I still have a bit of kyphosis, mainly affecting my scapula, but it doesn’t affect me much and I’ve learnt to just live with it! I don’t even tell my story anymore, this is the first time in a year that I’ve shared the full story. I normally just make jokes and move on. I send all my love and support to everyone who feels scared or anxious or even insecure about their scoliosis <3

My scoliosis is more severe than yours, i've had this since i was 13 (now i'm 24). Still, no matter how severe or mild it is, it still drags your confidence down, especially for us girls. It affects your shoulders, lungs, breasts, hips, of course back. So hard to find clothes that could hide ur scoliosis. And the insecurities, uggh.

Thank you btw. You are so positive about everything and i admire u for that. I wish i have that mindset. Haha. Stay strong scoliosis sisters! Fighting! Love from the Philippines! 💓

This is how I found you in the first place. I was looking for people who had scoliosis since I was diagnosed when I was about 17 and had no idea

My immediate reaction when I saw this in my subscription box was "oh my god you too?!" Feels really relieving seeing someone I look up to that knows the struggle! I wasn't diagnosed until my sophomore year of high school. But my degree of scoliosis has gotten inexplicably way better since last year, my doctor just couldn't believe it. I had no idea you started out with a channel about it. Thank you for making this video!

I got diagnosed around three months ago, and today i got my brace. I am thirteen so thankfully i only need a nighttime brace, but im still really happy that there are other people i can relate to. Thank you so much for being that person!

I 10/10 did not know that you have this

I had surgery a few months ago and it was the best and hardest decision ever. Wearing a brace, especially as a teen girl is hard. I love your Chanel so much and I find you very inspiring. Thank you for raising awareness❤️❤️
Also I think it is important to respect both choices, having surgery is hard but also is having a brace and they are very personal decision

Sarah, as a fellow scoliotic I'd like to thank you so much for this video, it's good to know that we're not alone. ❤️

Sarah, I would strongly suggest to you that you have the surgery and fairly soon. Not because the curves are progressing, but if you wait until it becomes necessary because of back issues and pain, in your 40's and 50's, it will be much harder to recover from the surgery. The curves may be progressing fairly slowly, but there is a good chance that as you get older the speed at which they increase will get faster. I'm going to put down another comment which is very long but is some quick info on scoliosis.

Sarah, I truly indentify with your scoliosis struggles! I discovered my scoliosis when I was 11 (mine is a S too) and since then the degrees just increased even with brace, physiotherapy and swimming. So when I was 15 I went through surgery with 60° in thoracic curve and 56° in lumbar curve. It decreased half of the degrees after surgery, I know it wasn't a huge change but the relief I felt knowing the curves wouldn't get worse was priceless! I am 20 now and I admire your channel so much! Love your work!! Kisses from Brazil! ❤️❤️❤️

I subscribed to your channel because of a glossier video you did, without knowing you had scoliosis. I also have scoliosis but I was diagnosed in middle school (I was 12) but the degree of my scoliosis wasn't severe enough for a brace. I went to get x-rays every year to check my progress but it didn't seem like anything changed. Growing up with scoliosis was weird in a way, because no one I knew had it and for some reason some people thought having scoliosis was funny? I never once thought of it as funny, and often struggled with my posture and pain in my back. Some days are better than others, and i really appreciate you for making content like this! You're an inspiration to me 💜💜💜

I didn't have pain before but the surgery was the best thing that ever happened to me! Of course, it was scary thinking about it but I recovered way quicker than I thought and I'm so glad I had it.

Hi. I'm 71 and found out I had scoliosis when I was about 15. My Dr said my bones would quit growing when I was 16. NOPE. I should be about 5'8" but barely 5' now. I didn't have a lot of pain until after menopause. Boom!!! I am now considered deformed. Went on SS Disabily in 2006 which messed up what I should be getting. I live on a tiny bit over $1000 a month and now can't work. I'm not here to scare anyone but it DOES GET A LOT WORSE as you age. Wish I had gotten surgery now but since it was so long ago, it would have been that straight rod, not the one that curves. God bless all of you who have this. 🙏 TC and do your back exercises. Take it from someone who didn't and now regrets it.

I got diagnosed in high school. I tried the brace but it didn’t do much since I was pretty much done growing. Some days are better than others and since i found out too late I feel like I’m still coming to terms with my body and managing back pain. Thanks for the video Sarah, it does help to know others out there are going through the same thing <3
