Keep in mind also that they didn’t have anything artificial. Nowadays we have tons of additives that are extremely unhealthy and nobody knows what they are or what they do

It’s not just sugar, but a majority of our diet consist of softer, more easily digestible material. Modern humans have deformed teeth and poor jaw structure because while young, they do not have a diet that consist of tougher material like jerky as an example. It help strengthen the jaw muscles and broaden the jawline. Similar to if you had braces to gradually align teeth over time.

Not only that, but in the middle ages, tooth decay was considered a sign of royalty, alongside being fat and being very pale

My old roommate has family in South Africa and they have near perfect teeth and don't go to the dentist. She said it's because they don't eat sugary foods.

Also people with bad teeth probably died a lot more often, simply because of infection and malnourishment. Leaving only the people with the strongest teeth.

I bought a bag of baked potato chips the other day. They have SUGAR in the ingredient list. Why do you need to add sugar to plain potato chips?

Funny how I rarely brush my teeth, eat sweets a lot, and never had any tooth decay since the last 10 years.

Another big factor is fiber. People in the middle ages ate more fiberous food which wore down teeth just enough for it not to be a problem

Blaming sugar is only part of the story. Sugar isn't the reason our teeth are crooked. The real problem is modern food is overly processed and too soft. Teeth are like a muscle if you don't use them you lose them. Chewing is a form of exercise. If you don't chew enough the roots of the teeth will weaken and atrophy. Modern food is too soft to give our teeth a good workout.

don't forget that we have processed foods nowadays, which has caused our mouths to grow smaller with time, which is why we have crooked teeth becoming a larger and larger problem

Genetics changed a lot to I know a lot of people who consume very little sugars and have tons of cavities our natural tooth enamel has weakened over the years sadly, We aren’t evolving anymore.

Want to keep your teeth healthy? Make sure to brush your teeth right after having any kind of sugar. Especially in large amounts like after drinking soda or having candy. If your at work, just use water and wash out your mouth. My anatomy teacher who was an ex Surgeon told me this.
