AL GREEN....WHAT'D I SAY

I'm 51 years old and first discovered Al Green in 1979 when I picked up a cassette at a bookstore. I was 12. I've been a HUGE fan ever since. I finally saw Al Green live last week in Austin, TX (April 24, 2019). Age and health being what they are, his concert was only 52 minutes long, but he worked the crowd with his voice, romance, and command of the stage. His voice didn't fail, but singing at that level of quality just isn't possible for a 2 or 3 hour concert anymore. So he chose to give QUALITY not Quantity. The last time he toured was 8 or 9 yrs ago. If you want to see him, you better get a ticket now for any shows he has left in 2019.

Seen this genius and genuine voice of soul four times and he just brings such energy and joy to performing

What a performer! A great voice to sing lead, with three lovely back-up singers to make it
even better. Al Greene uses the stage to the full and I think his expression and gestures
are so right. The way he exits the stage is special. The ultimate entertainer, no question.

I just watched Ray with Jamie Foxx again, last week. I reminded that it was early in his career, his group finished 20 minutes to soon, and he club owner wasn't going to pay them, ans Ray's manager told him that, hence, What I Say was created, on the spot.
