Frameless doors are easier to put on tinted films than conventional window frames. It's convenient because it's open. That's also an advantage.

This guy makes this look easy, excellent job he did. It's clear he has been doing this quite a while. I have watched many windows get tinted and not only have I never seen the file method, I also have never seen a torch used, nor have I seen anyone use a sprayer to lay down a mist of water before laying the film. This was cool to see this guy work and do such a clean job. NY requires 70% transmission so this is illegal here as well, it won't pass inspection, it will attract tickets, and that dark does make it very difficult to see at night. I have had dark tint my entire life, on every vehicle I've owned and I know what its like to have to roll a window down when you see a cop ahead, or need to turn left onto a side street, but can't see it without rolling down. It isn't the safest and I get that. But its just a fine and surcharge. I refuse to have anyone tell me I can't have the tint darker than 70%, I pay someone to overlook this during inspections (every year), however I don't put on 5% anymore or even close to that dark. I like 55-45%. It blocks a decent amount of light and UV protecting, blocks the red light starer's, and I can still see decent at night. I still roll em down when there's no lights on a side street to turn left, but during the day its great. I'm sure some of you have seen the "on/off" or auto darkening film....this is the cool stuff. Electronically turn the windows opaque or tinted by a switch. These sheets are expensive, and wiring is required to operate them, but very cool! If you haven't seen this and you find this video interesting, do a search for "auto darkening tint or film". There are companies that sell the stuff, but I haven't seen any tint shops carry this as an option. The sheets are expensive, and there will be added labor to run power to each window as well, but still very sweet to see. They have this in high end places like hotel room showers and office buildings for privacy.

I once had my truck windows like that back in the 90's..not only was it illegal, but what an improvement with seeing around the truck while driving after I removed the tint. The tint did keep the truck cooler when parked in the sun though.
