When my wife and I started looking we found a house we loved for $330k. Made an offer same day for $336k. Guy who never saw it paid $337k cash and waived the inspection. It’s an Airbnb now.

Apartment rent has doubled too. Not sure how I'm supposed to save for a house when I'm getting pushed out of the rental market.

I watched the same, shitty, 100 year old houses double in cost in my neighborhood in Maine. No upgrades. No new paint. Appliances from 1970. A wood stove. No central air. Windows that a fart could pass through. Magically, they were simply worth twice as much. In 2 years.

When Gen-X parents said, "I'll give you something to cry about." This is what they meant.

My mom told me when I move out I should look for:
a 1bd,
washer & dryer in unit,
dog friendly,
not on ground floor,
with security,
with parking,
in a nice neighborhood,
short drive to either downtown,
ALL utilities included,

...for under $900/month.

I love her to death, but you can really tell that she hasn't rented in 30 years.

She insists I'm just not looking hard enough. 🤦‍♀️😒🙄

Edit: to get most of she wants for me in our area- no security person or utilities - it starts at about ~$1, 700. Planning to get a two bedroom and split rent. A 2bd starts at ~$2, 200.

My mom bought a house in California for $330k (30k above her budget) in 1998. She finishes her last payment this month, and the thing is worth north of 1.5mil now.

Absolutely insane.

In California, you don't even get the box...

There's a listing in Orlando that's $200, 000 and you get 4 burnt walls walls without a roof. It's been there all year and it's a great example of the housing situation

Well done.... 👏👏👏 Reminds me of the HGTV shows where the couple has crazy jobs, eg the husband runs a microbrewery out of his trunk and the wife has a non-profit knitting scarves for displaced turtles, and their budget is $2M.

We really need to end corporate ownership of homes

A little history in 2013 I qualified for a mortgage with 3% down and I worked $9.50 per hour 40 hours a week 51 weeks a year. With a mortgage payment around $475. Now my 40 hour a week job 52 weeks here at $18 an hour I wouldn't be able to qualify for even $75000. And that's with 0 debt. This 💩 insanity.

That's a pretty good deal, ngl. Here in Canada, $350K gets you an empty soup can.

Wife and I took the money we would have used for a wedding said screw everyone and a fancy wedding, Left NY bought a house out in Iowa instead (well established careers) for 68k in 2017. 2019 happens housing market skyrocketed. Our house is now worth 130k.. what's really messed up! If you took our property/house and plopped it back into our hometown on Longisland it would well over 400k.

Make it make sense!

Don't forget about the ridiculous amounts you have to pay for a down payment.

Everyone is whining nowadays. Why don't you just buy a house in the 1950s? They're very affordable!
