SolidWorks - How I modeled my Sword

Solidworks video tutorial: I made this sword to introduce myself to SolidWorks advanced solid modeling and surface modeling. After creating this sword many of my fellow students became inspired to learn advanced SolidWorks; thus many of us signed up for an Advanced SolidWorks elective course.

do you think you could go into more detail on exactly how you created your sketches and planes? i am trying to make a sword and am having a lot of trouble.

Although lofting towards a single point may work sometimes (not really sure why it does because technically it shouldn't), it is not a good practice. This creates, what they call, a degenerative surface. It's better to loft between profiles for more stable geometry. You can either create an extremely small profile for a sharp pointed loft or use another surface tool afterwards to clean up the tip.

would love to see a step by step through some of the more complex surfaces. do you alter the lighting at all to get your glass to look more real? when i turn on the realview graphics my glass does not look as good as that. thanks for posting.

i have a question for you...in the beginning of the video, you loft the blade...I tried to some what duplicate your design and loft with the guided curves but cant seem to every get my sword to come to a tip...i seen an extra plane in you feature tree did you use it for 1 of those gudied curve sketches?

Very creative process. Nice job!. Good to see a tutorial that illustrates process rather than the nuts and bolts of each feature.
The thing you don't realize is that sword is made from the finest Elvish steel. It won't Ever.

The sword looks really fragile at the upper handle area. I would fear it would break off there.
