That was an awesome ending. A new cliffhanger to a 30+ year old movie. I'd always assumed they were both human...

John's The Thing will go down in history as one of the very best ever films I or we can see. Wanna do a film about paranoia, nervousness, worry, tension, mystery and death? Then this is the film to aspire to but in your own way.

Saw ET in the cinema upon its release in 1982 but didnt see The thing until two years after when we had a top load vhs player. I marvelled at it and must have watched it 100 of times since.

When you use CGI and animations and practical effects together, you can make magic

Just look at Jurassic Park

This man is a pure genius. I've read the book, and I can say only Carpenters genius could bring out the book perfectly

I wish Carpenter would make one more movie and go back to what made him such a iconic director and blow these garbage modern day horror films out of the water. I love The Thing and want to be scared and unsettled

I hate to say this, but for me, it was the (PS2/PC) game The Thing (2002), what brought me to the movie. I was playing the game and i found it pretty awesome. Then, absolutely out of nowhere, the local TV (here in Slovakia) the movie were screened...The Thing from 1982. I was too young to watch it, because it was aired at 22:30 or something. So i set the VHS recorder to record it (with the EP mode - boomers will know :D ) The quality was awful, but i was amazed and yet became the fan of the movie and the Kurt Russell

Neither of them are infected. That's the beauty of it. They, and we, are so paranoid that we simply mistrust everything.

Audience is "the thing" in the end. Pretends to be your friend, but attacks you as soon as you look away...

John Carpenter was easily 15-20 years ahead of its time

There was a preview screening in Denver with the Universal reps - they took two rows in the center of the theater. I was there with a buddy, and ran into John's wife, Adrienne Barbeau in the lobby - she was getting a soda. What a freaky film that was.
