Dog Behavior: A Curious Dog & A Cautious Cat

Cats and dogs cohabitating can sometimes be tricky but can also be very rewarding for both the cat and the dog. In this video sent in by a viewer, I'm evaluating the behavior of both to determine any cause for concern, as this owner wants to know how she can try to get Lilo (the dog in this video) to get along with her cat.

The first question I ask is - what signs are the animals giving you that they are NOT getting along and then secondly, what types of things can you do as a human to help foster a positive relationship between the two different animals?

My sisters cat hisses and sometimes throws a smack with his paw at my dog when he tries to get close and he barks/cries, I am assuming he's frustrated because he wants to play with the cat. What should I do in this situation? I would like them to get along since she dog sits for me sometimes. We don't live in the same household.
