Bending your legs or rather knees is the mantra for any racquet sport. Thanks for reminding us to use our legs to generate power in our tennis strokes. I thought the distinction between lowering ones racquet vs lowering one’s body was brilliant. Thank you!

I ve been playing tennis and trying to improve by studying clips from youtube for almost 10 years now. There are so many theories out there and many of them contradict with one another. Your lessons are by far the most accurate, in term of swing mechanics, since they actually improved many of my strokes. Great job and thank you!

It's still low to high, but just at a different degrees. You're right in that it doesn't need to be as extreme as some are being taught but watch any slow motion video of the big 3 and you'll see wrist is about waist level and finishes around the shoulder. What you're teaching is what we call, flattening out the stroke or hitting through the ball more. It still in essence is low to high.

As a former Pro and WTA/ATP coach, while this is generally correct, you will find the arm actually does go from low to high in varying amounts and the follow through is generally extended down the court before it goes across the body ... cheers

Perfect explanation of the right technique. what would be great to see is SLOW motion of the forehand or backhand.

I think his point is, high level players (I'm not one btw!) don't think "low to high". After the take back they let the racket drop/float ("pat the dog") and the wrist and arm go loose. They bend their knees, track the ball and then unleash, but it is the upward power from the legs, the uncoiling of the body and the loose arm and wrist that creates the low to high path of the racket head and windshield follow through, they don't consciously do this.

If you obsess over about "low to high" and getting a windshield follow through you will try too hard to control your arm and wrist, and arm the ball with low racket head speed.

There's definitely something to what this guy is saying and while controversial maybe, this is pretty insightful stuff that I've not heard before. Keep up the interesting work Vincent!

Nah... Questionable stuff. Misleading for a beginner. I mean, _just look at your own strokes_ in the beginning of the video, and the swingpath / path of your racket head on those. Fully contrary to what you claim at 3:18. To further confirm how the swingpaths tend to look like, anyone can go and look at a number of videos of pros hitting on Youtube. The problem is that at 3:18 you go OTT with how the swingpath supposedly should be. Nearly horizontal. A beginner will wonder why it's so hard to keep the ball in play. You might see this maybe on occasion on a flattened more attacking ball. Which leads to a final point of: it depends on the situation. Are you hitting a more attacking or a more defensive ball given the spot you're in... How much margin do you want to put on the ball... Are you trying to hit through the court or use an angle... The height of the incoming ball... Etc.

Dear Mr. Vincent Simone,

Words cannot express my gratitude to you. Your forehand teaching video is the best I have ever seen. It directly and clearly points out the most crucial technical tips. I believe the key point lies in the final follow-through phase - the windshield wiper motion. The most critical aspect is how the shoulder rotation drives the entire arm rotation to create this windshield wiper swing. This key point was an absolute revelation that opened a new door to tennis for me!!!

I've always had a puzzle: why is my one-handed backhand so great - everything from preparation to weight transfer to contact point to follow-through feels natural, producing powerful shots with heavy topspin and beautiful trajectory - while my forehand was terrible? I struggled with inconsistency, couldn't find the right rhythm and contact point, failed to transfer weight properly, and rarely produced good results - no proper arc, no speed or power, short balls, and no crisp hitting sound. I once thought this might be due to my physical limitations, that I was just naturally incapable of hitting good forehands.

Until, until I watched your video, which solved my puzzle. Actually, the principles of forehand and one-handed backhand are very similar. My one-handed backhand has always executed perfectly the key points of relaxed arm, fixed wrist, and especially the windshield wiper motion, which is why I could consistently hit good shots. My forehand lacked these elements, but I could never figure out why. Your video made me truly understand the reason. You've made me fall even more in love with tennis. This is the happiest thing in my 12 years of learning tennis. You gave me confidence, showing me that everyone can hit like a professional player if they master the correct technique. If the technique is wrong, no amount of practice will help - it's just wasting time and making bad habits harder to correct. With correct technique, you can see significant improvement without excessive practice, and confidence naturally grows.

Thank you again, Mr. Vincent Simone. You are my tennis angel!

First time I have seen you and this video. I LOVE the fact you are intelligent enough to speak slowly and clearly with a SIMPLE explanation—so refreshing to see this after too much talking from many other coaches as well as not always clear. I’ll definitley look at your other videos. The first person also in my experience to demonstrate this crucial action on the forehand. Thank you!

Tremendous teaching skills from this smart young man, wow. Aside from being correct, he is concise and clear, unlike all other long-winded online tennis instructors.

If you slow down the swing of the player hitting near the start of the video, it's quite clear that his arm is moving higher through the finish.

This is good info. I'd say that the swing path is a little low too high, but for the most part, this is spot on. I've always thought that teaching a player to brush the ball from the baseline was misguided.

Very valuable insight into the topspin forehand mechanics, and the calm explanation is very enjoyable to listen to.

I've never heard anyone talk about getting your body below the ball, but in my minds eye I can see pro tennis players almost "sitting down" as part of the preparation/coiling to hit a groundstroke. I am going to go out and focus on getting my body down to the ball the next time I play. Thank you for this video. I appreciate the steady pace of the delivery - nothing rushed, no overload of content in any one video.

your videos are by far the most accurate as far as technique and progression...while every other coach is always trying to get people to copy the pros which is wrong for a beginner, you make it simple and it works...my game has improved from 3.5 to 4.0 in a matter of months..thank you...

This is the best information of tennis and so underrepresented. After a long journey of testing about 50 racquets and many many strings i have finally become aware of this. It's like an awaken experience and afterwards i have tried to instilled this to many of my tennis friends and eventhough they can't truly gasp the idea they definitely improve and appreciate my help

Great video, thank you for expaining this. I really struggle with my forehand being more 'brushing' and having no pop sound on the strike. Definetly when I watch pro players on TV it seems like they move the racket low to high.
I wish you added actual video of you and pro players in slow mo to demonstrate their swing path.
Thank you
