These little candles won't do anything. They cost vs the heat isn't big enough. I use the religious candles from dollar tree. They burn for 4 days and last long enough to actually heat the pot.

it was a fun project and the pots do heat up, We noticed no differance in abient tempurature. You can hold your hands around it and feel the warmth and you may be able to make a blanket type tent and probably be very noticable. will NOT heat a room but we had fun making one and had very engaging conversation.

Hot water bottle under your blankets, with your dog, my dog runs hot, she’s a great heater

Hey, pair this with the fat lamp design! Use bees wax and you could heat any room for long periods of time and if you raise hogs you can take the rendered fat and use it when you run out of bees wax or even beef fat works!!! Nice layering the terra cotta on the top! Hadn’t tried that.

You only need 1 pot, you dont meed to stack multiple, nor should you want to as it A) makes it harder to clean (without having to take it apart) and B) soot collected within the terra cotta pot is flammable and cumbustable (it can cause an explosion).

If you make one of these heaters, check regularly (I recommend once a week) if you see large soot build up, take your heater (when its cool not hot) and run it under running water, either sink or hose) and clean the soot out.

These heaters do work in small rooms 10x10 and smaller pretty well. Do not use it on carpet or flamable surfaces as it is a fire hazard when not properly used and cared for.

Keep in mind 1 candle produces 80 to 100 watts of heat. The human body gives off 100 watts of heat.
No clay pots can defy the laws of physics.

🙂 So does this really work?.. unfortunately I'm living out of my truck/ cargo trailer this winter.. so I'm looking for a good source to keep me warm this year

It’s a very clear instructional video! I can easily make 1!

Those aren't terra cotta pots, they're clay pots. Terra cotta is a specific clay pot that's much thicker and is extremely expensive because it can withstand the freeze/thaw cycles that destroy clay pots.

Use extreme CAUTION with this type of heater as it will shortly bring the candle wax up to flashpoint and could easily burn your house down!

Yeah .... I just want a stable, sturdy setup to keep crisco candles safe & effective in a tent. I'm thinking sand & terra cotta, but am sick today & drawing a blank on configuration.

I wonder if it would help if you partially or fully filled the small upright one with some sand

My husband made two of these a bit smaller but we love them. They take the chill off in our 200 year old New England home. We have used them for years and they cost us nearly nothing. Specially compared to the price of oil.

Save yourself the trouble. Place the pot upside down on two corn cans, place a coin on top to block the hole and place your candle on a tuna can

I did something similar and it really does not work well at all. The material is the problem those pots chip break and really don't heat up well at all.

This is a thing I have done, but I think a lot of people assume they'll be getting more heat out of it than the source. That's not how it works. Think of it more like a battery that you're charging with the heat and then it releases that heat at a lower temperature for a longer time.

Do you have a list of supplies that you used? I would love to make one❤

Did this 20 years ago and it worked well. Just be careful the pots get really hot.
