For those of us that have raised ourselves, this is the conversation we have missed from our fathers and grandfathers.

the phrase "You can't beat death, but you can beat death in life"

is one of the most profound statements I've ever heard.

And when nobody wakes you in the morning, and when nobody waits for you at night, and when you can do whatever you want. What do you call it, freedom or loneliness?

Isolation is a gift.. I've come to love myself this year.
Took 27 years, and quite a few mistakes, but all the inherent self hate, and misery, isn't mine.
I'm glad I held on.
I'm glad I'm alive.

I changed my mind. Suicide is not the solution.

I feel like everyone needs an old man to narrate their life...

He also said, "If you let them kill you they will." He was right. Protect yourself. Learn to say NO. He also said, :"Sometimes you have to just piss in the sink." I love this guy.

Throwing Away The Alarm Clock
by Charles Bukowski

my father always said, “early to bed and
early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy
and wise.”

it was lights out at 8 p.m. in our house
and we were up at dawn to the smell of
coffee, frying bacon and scrambled
eggs.

my father followed this general routine
for a lifetime and died young, broke,
and, I think, not too
wise.

taking note, I rejected his advice and it
became, for me, late to bed and late
to rise.

now, I’m not saying that I’ve conquered
the world but I’ve avoided
numberless early traffic jams, bypassed some
common pitfalls
and have met some strange, wonderful
people

one of whom
was
myself—someone my father
never
knew.

Laying in bed staring at the ceiling at 5 am, couldnt eat for 3 days with a broken heart this is making me cry, but I know these moments will mold me into a stronger person and to anyone else going through tough times: when you're at the bottom the only way is up, keep your head up and ride it out straight to perfect laughter.

There is a light somewhere
It may not be much light
But it beats the darkness

"The gods wait to delight in you."
I want to believe it now more than ever, Charles.

"You will be alone with the gods
And the nights will flame with fire"
That image is absolutely stunning. There are no words for the emotions this invokes

All of these words mean different thing to each one of us.

“Sometimes you climb out of bed in the morning and you think
I'm not going to make it
but you laugh inside
remembering all the times you've felt that way”

Took me 15 years to realize alcohol was holding me back and preventing me to become my best version. Not anymore. I come here almost every day to watch this video. My life is my life.

For a moment I thought that this was Bukowski's voice. It would be what I expected from the man in the photo, a raspy voice. It is a shame writers and poets don't record their work in their own voice.
