I started my little lawn care/“landscaping” and tree service business here in NY. Ive listened to a bunch of fullertons podcasts and heard your episodes! Great stuff. I currently use a crewmax 2011 lifted tundra and im looking at getting an older classic chevy 3/4 ton lb7 duramax or a equivalently in gasser. I think you have a good point. I could pay half what a diesel is and put that other half into a v plow! Idk im torn. But thats a great tip!

So glad you mentioned the topography in your area. As you know, I recently made the trip from NY to your area. I was stunned at how flat the landscape was once I passed through Columbus. In my area, I couldn't do without a diesel. I have to go over a mountain with a 600' elevation change over 1.5 miles to get to any of my work. All of my trucks go over it every day. With that being said, I do keep one diesel for the heavier hauling - dump trailer, mini, skid etc., but the rest of the trucks are gas and don't pull more than 7k. When in a pinch I have had to pull a machine with a gasser and its a 20 mph crawl at times.

Spot on brother! I have an NPR and a chevy 2500hd with 6.0 gas and they are great for me.

Really it boils down to preference and weighing the pros and cons of each for your specific business needs. You also have to consider the upkeep and maintenance of each. A diesel costs alot more to service and maintain so with that in mind, any fuel cost saving would quickly be lost plus a while lot more when it inevitably needs major service. Ask me how I know....

Fantastic advice! Sound and reasonable. I absolutely Love well built diesels, but the extra expense in buying them for all the reasons (mostly gov regulations) doesn’t exactly equal a wise purchase…

We've tried both.... Can't beat the power of diesel for sure but it's just not necessary in most cases unless you're talking really big trucks. The cost of ownership is way less with gas and in the end they do the same job. I have (3) 6.2L Fords and they don't do any less work than my powerstroke truck ever did. Very reliable engine.... Can plow snow, and pull a 10, 000 lb loaded dump trailer daily.... That's good enough for me.

We use f150s with smaller engines for mow trucks, gas super dutys for the bigger work.

We did a cost of ownership video on our channel several weeks ago. We have come to the same conclusion that gas trucks are definitely the way to go.

6.0 ford is one of the toughest ford engines if it’s treated right. I used to think they where bad until I started to get around them and owing them. Great advice otherwise lol. Love your content and the podcast.

Diesel is way better if your plan to keep that truck for long time

Don't ever buy a 6.4 atleast a 6.0 can be made into a decent engine where a 6.4 is always gonna be a boat anchor.

Don't listen to Caleb in the video, listen to this Caleb typing this comment. Just buy a 6.0! You will fall in love with them and not want anything else!!
