Tabs vs Spaces: A new show all about how Microsoft is making Windows a better place to write code.

Episode 1: Learn all about Windows Terminal and how it can improve your development workflow.

If you're a developer (or IT professional) who likes to use the command line and appreciates an organized, customized, fast workflow... this episode is for you!

• Run PowerShell, Ubuntu (Linux), Azure CLI, Oh-my-Zsh, and Posh-Git command lines all in one terminal via multiple tabs.

• Open each command line in separate split panes, all in the same terminal window using shortcut keys to jump between them.

• Customize your font, background colors or images, shortcut keys, and default profiles.

• Checkout some demos and see what's good.

Kayla Cinnamon will show you how to get started and here are some links to learn more:

I think I would lose my mind if I had an animated gif as my shell background image.

Microsoft finally acknowledging that distributing a json file is easier than dealing with a gui for setup!? Never thought I'd see the day.

The new terminal is great! I use it all the time. The main thing missing for me is a non-blurry transparent background, because sometimes you want to copy something/follow instructions from some page, etc, and the acrylic looks neat but doesn't help in that regard.

Love the new terminal and WSL, I'm a software engineer doing most of my work now through these two tools and have a great workflow set up, let me know if you want anymore workflow walkthroughs from a guy who has been on Linux (Arch btw :P ) for the past half decade but recently migrated back to Windows thanks to these advancements!

THIS is the most usefull IHM I've seen on Windows (I'm not a big fan of the "raise your hand - find the mouse - move it - aim at the target - clic ! - come back to the keyboard" stuff). I guess I'll feel as good as on my Linux servers. Thank you !

I've been using Windows Terminal since the first beta was released on the Windows Store, and I've been extremely pleased with it so far. The tabs, unicode support, padding support, and theming support are all appreciated. Coming from ITerm2 on MacOS, here are the only things I really miss:

1) Mouse support, especially for tmux and vim. You won't believe how much of a difference it makes to be able to scroll and click through tmux windows and panes while ssh'd into a remote server. I know they're currently working on this and I'm looking forward to when it gets added.
2) Right-click to open wt anywhere in Explorer. I'm hoping that once 1.0 comes out, Windows Terminal will slowly become more integrated with Windows itself so that we don't have to rely on registry hacks to make our workflow smoother.

Overall, between VSCode, Windows Terminal, and WSL, it's clear that Windows is looking better than ever for developers and will only improve in the coming years. Exciting stuff!

as someone who runs a Linux box on the daily, it is nice to see features i love from Linux, like the terminal emulation, coming to Windows, even if i do not build any code for it, or run it myself.

Not even Microsoft product managers are free from the horrible PowerShell startup time

I personally started using wt because of the unicode support, ended up very satisfied with the extra functionality such as panes etc.

When the video started I wanted to make an emoji joke. Then came 8:30.

I Didn't hear anything after .gif background pictures... Look at it... It's a fusion of the classic screensaver's calming effect and the mental suffering of the command line interface!
Mind blown...
