South Sudan is on the frontline of climate change. Extreme flooding has affected hundreds of thousands. Bentiu camp for displaced people is home to 140,000 and has been surrounded by water for close to five years. #BBCAfricaEye investigates.

Some of the camp's residents have fled fighting, others escaped here after unprecedented floods began in 2019. At the worst point, two thirds of the state was underwater - forcing people to forage for food like water lily roots to supplement UN rations.

Now, the BBC has been shown evidence that the flood water may harbour yet another threat to the region's vulnerable inhabitants - pollution from the country's oil industry.

This is by far the best documentary I've watched of South Sudan. The people of Sudan are allowed to show their resilience and are portrayed with dignity. I have deep respect for them.

The oil does not benefit the community, which was given to them free. Then you pollute the land and water and leave them to die. Some animals are better than some human beings

‘Injustice’ is just a word to many, until it happens to them. To be seen and not heard is one of the most torturous injustices of this world today, thank you for giving these very hard working people a voice.

These people are so beautiful. The woman with the tea shop. The man picking water lilies. What a life. Ive never understood why some people live so well and some live right on a knife edge. Its so wrong. Breaks my heart.

Great documentary ...such an eye opener on the situation in the oil fields in Bentiu.. this is surely well researched with no bias. very sad to see the impact and suffering caused by some multinational companies. they should be called out and fined heavily for this although it is almost impossible to compensate for such suffering on human and animal life.. it just ain't right that all this is happening at such a time... The Bentiu community deserves better. My love for South Sudan is deep in my heart having worked in Yei and Juba some years back... Thank you for the great work you have shown the world. we stand with Bentiu!!

This incident alone should make these leaders to resign with shame! This is unbelievable for a sovereign country to have it citizen suffering left and right and only being fed by United Nations. Shame and low intelligence to our leaders for not anticipating the issue and get ready for it!
