Can Kylo Ren be Redeemed? How Rey Could Turn Ben Solo | Star Wars Theory About Reylo

In The Last Jedi, Luke Skywalker says that he can't save him, referring to Ben Solo. However, there is still someone who might be able to turn Kylo Ren away from the Dark Side, and that person is Rey. In this video, I want to go over how this might happen in Episode IX. Let's talk about Kylo Ren being redeemed!

======================================================
Our Humble Beginnings: The Den of Nerds started as the personal YouTube channel of our founder, Joshua Lucas. Josh is a comic book writer and editor, but more importantly, he's a HUGE Nerd. He started making videos on June 15th 2016. The goal back then was to just talk about Nerdy things, but quickly Josh found that his interests had changed. Soon after, he formed a new vision for what The Den of Nerds could and should be.

The Changing State of Media: Media Is going through the most massive shift in the past hundred years. Everything is going digital, direct to market, and mobile. The best and worst part of this is that there are no more gatekeepers. Anyone and everyone can put their content out there and reach a mass audience. However, the new gatekeeper is the algorithm. In order to get stuff in front of people, certain practices are done which hurt quality. In this world, where established networks are now fighting for views against thousands of YouTube personalities and bloggers, ALL of these people have forgotten the most important part of this equation. That is the value for the end consumer. That is something we will NEVER do. How will we figure out how to add value to our audience? It's simple; we'll ACTUALLY interact with them and we'll actually CARE.

Our Vision: We want to become the ESPN of Nerdy things, but obviously with some changes. We imagine a place and time where we have high quality and personalized content put out every day that serves Nerds around the world. We want to be hyper interactive with our viewers on Social Media and in person. Simply put, we exist to expand the fun in YOUR life! Becoming a major player in reporting, programming, and covering Nerdy things is how we plan to do that!

DJ points out that both the First Order and the Resistence are both buying weapons of war to kill other people. Who is right/good depends on what side you're on. Is Kylo any worse than Poe? They've both killed people. Kylo killed people that we like while Poe killed people we don't care about. One is more honest. He was willing to sacrifice himself by killing his father versus killing a stranger. As Snoke said, it split him in two. That's why he couldn't kill Leia or Rey.

i personally doubt ben will die, they're not gonna commit genocide against the solo/skywalker families. if he dies the bloodline cuts off.

Anyone worried about Ben He isn't going to die. The ending of the Skywalker saga will be a very happy one and I am 100% sure I am right. :)

Top three things I want in Episode IX:
1. Mortis (Rey and Kylo entering the Force physically) Playing the role of The Daughter and The Son
2. Force Ghost Anakin (Through Mortis preferably) Playing the role of The Father
3. Reylo happy ending : A shared exile to Ahch-To creating a new Jedi Order that embraces every aspect of the Force.
(That way Ben can still be a Dark Side user, just using it appropriately when it is needed. Light and Dark will have to coexist to create balance.)

Please talk more about what you think will happen if Ben becomes redeemed and joins Rey in the light side and how their lives will be together !

Thank you so much for all the Reylo videos!! I can’t get enough of them!! I’m honestly so sad that there is only one more movie to be seen in this trilogy. I feel like there is enough plot and potential character development to carry on through at least 2 more films, so I’m hoping that episode nine is at least a long film. I also think that it would be so beautiful if part of Kylo Ren’s redemption came from the love he has deep down for his Mom. Anakin first started giving in to the dark side when he couldn’t save his mother, so it would be beautiful if this time the love between a mother and her son played a role in saving the galaxy. Obviously because of Carrie Fisher’s passing, this may not happen. But whatever does happen, I think it’s clear that the galaxy is going to be saved by love.

Good points. It is so true that Ani/Vader more choose a more light-side choice, than him suddenly completely letting all of the Sith things go.

I think it is financially smart for Disney to allow a Skywalker to live. I know they want to take a break but it would allow them to revisit the Skywalkers down the road. And let’s face it that family is the heart of Star Wars especially to the average fan.

I used to ship Finnrey back in 2015. I haven’t stopped shipping Reylo since TLJ came out 😂

Ben already made a choice in TLJ, and that was chosing Rey over his master. In that moment, he thought that Rey would also choose him. And when she didn't, he fell back into his dark hole. But it still doesn't change the fact the he chose her. I think he can no longer undo that.

In episode 9, i think it's finally time for Rey to choose. The Resistance/family or Ben? And i think this time she will choose Ben when the Resistance will ask her to kill him. Just like how Rey's torture made Ben realize what is truly important to him, a similar heist against Ben may finally be the tipping point for Rey to realize her feelings for him.

I like the Mortis idea...or just the idea of JJ tying EVERYTHING in, bringing everything full circle. I’ll probably cry like the sap that I am no matter what. 😂😂😂😂😂😂

"When 900 years old you reach" ~Yoda

Apparently he was exactly 900 years old, having been born in 896 BBY, and dying in 4 ABY.

Ben should live after he and Rey destroy the First Order because if he dies it will be the same exact thing that happened to Vader. Too similar. He and Rey will live on to bring balance to the force, being a middle ground for the sides of the force.

I love you Josh, your videos are really intriguing and make a lot of sense for me.

I like where u go with this. Like episode 9 will be like an amalgamation of episode 3 and 6

I completely agree with you on the fact that Kylo could still be redeemed as Anakin killed over and over again, including children and essentially his own wife, and he was still redeemed and people were alright with that; Darth Vader became a well-loved villain and the icon of the saga. And yet, when it comes to Kylo Ren, who still has some light in him and went on killing sprees like Darth Vader did, people think it a horrible idea to redeem him. Even if he didn't get redeemed, I still think that Rey could bring him to a more balanced stage, ie grey/light-sided sith, which is a massive improvement in my opinion, and I love that Rey is training to be a Jedi but still feels anger and pain and doesn't deny that those feelings are there, introducing the audience to a more 'realistic' version of a jedi if you will. I don't know if I'm making any sense and if someone's gonna read this, but there ya go... had to say it.

In the novelization, Luke after reconnecting with the Force recognizes Rey's cosmic light side connection and changes his mind (temporarly) about joining with her in confronting the First Order. Up to this point in the saga Keylo has not recognized her importance (though Snoke did) and I wonder if he will see this in SW IX which may influence his relationship with Rey?

In general don't fairy tales end happily? I believe Reylo will happen, the force will be balanced ending the cycles of "force" related wars and Rey & Ben redeemed will have the belonging in each other they have longed for most of their lives. Another thought, Vader died from the injuries he received in killing the Sideous. If Vader had survived don't you think Luke would have taken him someplace where he would live out his remaining years in seclusion? I can't see Luke bringing Vader, his father, to trial and execution? So do you think Rey would bring Keylo, who would now be the redeemed Ben, to trial & execution? Nah, that's not a fairy tale ending that's Nuremberg Justice!
