I can't imagine sitting there with a machete and watch a feral kid eat my friend and just watch instead of instant decapitation. He's been in crazy situations before but all of a sudden he doesn't know what to do except talk to the animal eating his friend? His friend was still alive and he just watched then started trusting that thing.
