Alternative theory: Patrick went to a regular grocery store to buy soda, but because he's not the brightest, he calls it the "soda store". Patrick also never went to college at all, Flats just knew he was Spongebob's best friend and approached him and said "Hey! Remember me? We went to college together!" This one statement was enough for Patrick to create a false memory, as he is shown multiple times through the series to be highly suggestible.

I think Mrs.Puff definitely let Flats get away with it. Either with her help or just her turning a blind eye to Flats' harassment because she didn't like SpongeBob. Classic teacher turns a blind eye to abuse situation. But I disagree about Patrick, I think its more likely he got tricked by Flats with some mind games. I think Flats could have easily confused Patrick to the point where he doubted his own memory and thought maybe they did meet each other before. I think the soda shop part is real, I mean who says there isn't a soda shop for no reason? There's plenty of other shops we know about too. So really I think Patrick sadly is just really easily manipulated and thats why he said that. Or who knows, maybe he went to college for a few weeks and then dropped out and they met during the short time span he was there. That could also make sense to me.

Even Squidward wouldn't kill SpongeBob, he has morals on multiple-occasions; for example when standing up to Mr.Krabs when SpongeBob had the soul taken towards the Dutchman, and when the Pizza man made SpongeBob cry. And Mrs.Puff was shown to care about SpongeBob on several occasions even though people don't notice it, For example when she was in the prison episode where she didn't want to go back to Boating School she wouldn't tell SpongeBob that she hated him enough to get away from him and stood up for him in the same episode that he shouldn't go to jail beacuse he's 'just a boy' or something like that. Patrick is too dumb to honestly Hire a hitman and SpongeBob is his 'Best Friend', he cried his eyes out when SpongeBob left to join the Jellyfish, why on earth would that dumb Starfish kill off his best friend?

The part when the Flat’s dad says “Now he’s gonna kick my butt.” As if he’s terrified. Maybe he didn’t see the early signs of Flats becoming a manipulative psychopath and making threats about wanting to murder him. Did Flats do this to his dad even throughout his childhood? That is genuinely messed up. Do you know how much of a messed up psycho you gotta be to do that?

20 years of watching this episode and it took a YouTuber in 2021 for me to think "huh.... that's is a little weird that flats can drive a semi even though he was going to boating school"

Plot Twist: Patrick is just an accessory to Mrs. Puff’s plan, and was only used in order to give Flats Spongebob’s address.

You talk about how Patrick doesn't seem like the type to attend college, when Pat says he met Flatz in college, however Patrick said COMMUNITY college, not regular college. A community college is open to anyone who wants to follow a course compared to college admission, meaning essentially anyone could get in, so Patrick going to community college makes sense. I won't dismiss the idea of Flatz going to community college either, as he doesn't seem very bright, intelligence-wise. About the bit where you talk about Flatz being able to drive garbage truck without a licence, you said "Since Flatz knows how do drive, why would he need to go to boating school?" The answer is simple, you may know how to drive, or be good at driving, but just not have a licence, therefore you'd need to get your driving test done, so you can get a licence.

Pushing all of that aside, Patrick is simply too stupid to pay a hitman (Flatz) to take out his best friend. Even then, your point about Patrick using Spongebob for money and food disproves this. If Patrick was living off Spongebob (which he clearly is) then killing Spongebob would result in Patrick not having anyone to leech off of.

Overall, it's an interesting concept, however it doesn't really check out.

Soda shops were really popular for a Time in America, they were kind of a cross between pharmacies and bars but with cocaine infused sodas.

I'll be honest. When I was a kid my mom would burn some toons onto vhs tape when we couldn't afford cable. This episode was one of em and this was pretty much how my mind presumed the episode.

It's an anachronism. An old one. My grandmother was what was called a "Soda Jerk" which is basically someone who operates the bar at a soda shop.

Seeing how Mrs. Puff couldn't stand Spongebob, I can understand Y she praised Flats 4 those chalk drawings of him beating up Spongebob.

The "parent is scared of their own child" is actually a pretty common trope in Nickelodeon shows or in general in TV, and many TV shows stated that. In Henry Danger, Henry's parents couldn't control Piper. In the Thundermans, Nora's own parents were afraid of her. It's implied that Vicky's parents in Fairly Odd parents couldn't control her either. And that's only a few examples. Of coursee those shows were aired much later, but I still think it's kinda a Nickelodeon thing.

I think you made some interesting points. Definitely agree Flats has a personal vendetta against SpongeBob because SpongeBob wronged him in someway in the past. I definitely think one part of it is the whole “alien hunting” incident, but I offer another reason flats would want to beat up SpongeBob…Ok so it’s the episode where mermaid-man and barnacle-boy are taking SpongeBob on a ride along. They see a former villain of the heroes. His name is the “Atomic Flounder”, and he’s no longer a villain. He’s just a retired old man minding his own business when SpongeBob attacks him. Now what if Atomic Flounder is Flat’s grandfather. Having a supervillain as a grandfather probably didn’t do him any good in terms of mental health. It could be argued that the reason Flat’s father is scared of his own son is that he tried to set a good example for his son. It could have been a “redeem the family” situation, but the grandfather’s influence over flats is too strong. Thinking from Flats point of view: “I want to get back at this guy for not just what he did to be, but my grandpa too. Hey he has a teacher who dislikes him, and wouldn’t care if I beat him up. I could also hang out with his best friend too really mess with him…” that’s one way it could be interpreted.

“No such thing as a Soda Store” there is in my town. It’s a very popular hang out joint. For both teens and college adults. The cops love it as the teens are hanging out there rather than out committing crimes, doing drugs, or getting drunk.
