Why is Python so Popular in 2020?

Python has risen incredibly fast in popularity over the last few years .... but why? Is it because Python is the greatest language ever created? Is it because the Illuminati wills it so ... or perhaps some other reason developers don't understand?

And remember, wash your hands for 20 seconds before coding. And if you're gonna code in Ruby, wash your hands for 40 seconds.

I've been learning Python the first year of my degree, I started in late February. It's incredibly welcoming to newbies. I created my first program using Tkinter and it asks for a user password, gets them to re-enter it, and then validates it against certain requirements I've made. I watch Stefan's videos every morning as inspiration. I hope to one day I can carry myself as well as him and hopefully find the success he has. Thanks for the amazing content you've provided the community, we are very grateful!

lol this whole semester Ive been wondering why my school is forcing me to learn python. Here i am taking a break from the course thinking "I wonder what Stefan has posted recently", and this is the video I get. Like WOW this was extremely insane! But thanks Stephen, now I feel motivated to continue, it was destiny.

One of the biggest thing i think python has over its alternatives is PIP. Sure the datascience libarys are good but you dont have to deal with some external tool like npm or maven. Its feels like part of the language.

Learning how to learn is the major key

if you want to relax & learn at the same time then Stephen is your guy. I have stopped watching videos with titles like "Learn to Code in 3 months!!" or "Become a Web Developer in No Time". Stephen keeps it real, I've seen him in another video sharing the book he wrote + some of his recommended books from his extensive library collection of computer books according to Stephen. So again keeping it real. He promotes reading a lot which is something I love. Thanks for all your wisdom Stephen!!

Ultimately, it comes down, imo, to Python being a pretty thoughtfully developed language. It has an inner consistency that makes it fairly easy to pickup. After some time in Python, you get an intuitive feel for what syntax will work in the language and often times you'll be right, more so in my experience than many other languages where a little stop by the documentation may be necessary.

Stefan, you are right, thanks for sharing. I become so inspired by all your content that I started by own YouTube channel today. I want to share my 12 years of knowledge in IT. I will start with free Python course to help those people who want to learn it. Python is great, its make it so easy to automate plenty of common tasks, and it's much easier to learn than many other programming languages.

Dynamic typing makes it hard to do anything scalable in Python. When first learning Java/C# I felt as if static typing was a gift from the gods (the same way I feel about Python or R when automating some annoying task or transforming data).

Reinventing the wheel is time taking.
Definitely wouldn't advise that until that seams to be the last and only option.

I’m pleased that I chose to learn Python 8 months ago 👍

I think what you said at the end is dangerous. “Reuse reuse reuse” is great when someone has done something similar, but it can also mean you invest your time into packages which aren’t helpful (you waste time)

I think we both agree that reuse definitely comes prior to reinventing, but people should learn how to assess libraries prior to decided reuse. I.E. what are all the things we might want to do in the future? Does the library support that / is it modifiable to do that.

Python is successful because it is a wellmade high level language. One does not become the most popular programming language by catering to AI and data scientists, since very few people actually work in those areas. How many AI developers do you know? No, I don’t know one either. Business is made with productivity, and that is what the Python toolset and community bring to the table.

I did one of Pythons courses and that what you are repeating most of the time about programming: that code is not most important part, is true! Because I learn almost everything what is related to base of Python and then boom, I do not know how to think about and design program project in methodological way! Easy think like make calculator, make some silly card game cool! But where is problem? Understanding of how it all working together! I found answer in UML and O-O-Design Foundation!
