"Inedible; tastes like chicken" to me always came off as Louie's various affronts to all things godly and good by attempting to eat something he knows as an objective fact cannot be eaten, and between trying to destroy the natural order; realized it tasted like chicken.

In the German version Louie says that the Mamuta "tastes like it was already eaten once before"

As an American, I can confirm that the best way to describe how YooHoo tastes is “Chocolate juice”

I didn't realize that it was ACTUALLY intended to be a weed leaf... I thought it was a normal leaf that happened to look like a weed plant, and everyone said it was as a joke. Based on the japanese name and the treasure hoard, seems I was incorrect in my assumption.

13:16 My theory is that the Koppaites are descended from the Hocotatians, or vice versa. My guess is that it all used to be a single race that colonized several planets, and as a result, they began to evolve into separate species that are still similar but have slightly different dietary preferences. It would explain why Koppaites are relatively similar to Hocotatians despite being from a different planet.

The french name for perplexing spring is a pun on a french expression, sailing on troubled waters, meaning "to go forward without knowing where it will lead you"

I watched this with no idea what a PIKMIN game was about. Safe to say I’m now obsessed

Update: I got PIKMIN 4, I do not regret my description

There's a couple of other changes here too:

The Japanese version includes an option to enable or disable katakana and hiragana above some kanji text (thus making it easier for Japanese children to read properly).

Also on the map screen, it normally shows the location name and the caves in that area, for Above Ground though, since the text is short in Japanese they also included bubbles to fill the gap.

The file select also has the buttons in bubbles too in the Japanese version, but not in other versions.

In fact, US and Japanese GameCube versions also have an option to choose Progressive Scan mode (if the game detects the expensive component cables or if played on a Wii via HDMI with a converter), but European GameCube versions don't have this and instead have an option to choose between 50HZ and 60HZ.
These latter changes are mostly common though, along with the Nintendo logo color.

Great video! But I'd just like to point out that アメボウズ ( amebouzu, the water wraith) technically does mean candy-bald, but it's most commonly seen as a combination of the Japanese words for amoeba ( アメーバ) and the Japanese yokai umibozu. (海坊主, literally sea-preist). As another commenter pointed out, ame can also mean rain (雨) instead of candy (飴). And bouzu (坊主) can mean baldness/crew cut, but usually refers to a buddhist priest. It is also sometimes used in fishing to refer to not catching anything.

This feels like a video from 2012 that was uploaded in 2023.

"Lesser Green Fart Death" I'd hate to see what the _Greater_ Green Fart Death is like

I find it crazy how many of the Pal brands are specifically german companies.
Great video! This is very well made and I hope this gets the views it deserves!

Thank you for documenting this, as i'm not a fan of digging through The Cutting Room Floor, etc for information like this.
I also had no idea that the Silencer's Poko Value was 666, absolutely beautiful. I also think the Wistful Wild's audio being messed up, may be due to how weirdly Pikmin 2 processes music. I watched a video on it a long time ago. I can't be sure though, as I don't fully remember.

This game truly does have alot of regional and cultural differences with its treasures, and text-strings though, truly interesting though! Thank you for compiling it all!

Great video! I kinda hope to see Pikmin 4 bring back brand names like Pikmin 2 did because it was a lot of fun recognizing certain items that we know in the real world!

4:28 "Galette" doesn't really mean pancake, it's more like a biscuit, cookie or something pancake-shaped.
I do appreciate the inclusion of the QC flag when mentionning french canadian changes, that's cool :)

About the Wollywog, it's name is also one letter away from being the exact same as an extremely popular character in the UK and Australia that many consider very racist, the Gollywog. It's based off of a blackface design and even to this day it's still popular and you can still find him. He was never copyrighted properly so throughout history people kept taking the character and using him for their own toys and merch. It is still heavily debated if the character is a racist symbol or not.

Final Level is a good change. It means the same thing as "floor", as in levels of a building. It also leans into the fact its a videogame, and "final level" has connotations of the hardest challenge in a videogame.

For anyone curious, the ICC of the Permanent Container seems to be a brand name of tinned Mackerel Pike. Based of free translation of the texture.
