EDIT: Parts of the beginning of the video, as well as around the 7 minute mark had to be blurred in youtube studio, as Microsoft contacted me and mentioned that I was not allowed to show that content otherwise my video would be striked down.

Hey, one of Faithful's managers here. Faithful has been probably one of the largest victims of Marketplace product theft. Our case is an unfortunate one as we took a long delay of time to recover contact with Vattic (original creator of Faithful) to finally sort this all out. Some of us weren't even in the community before we tried to regain contact. Ever since our case got exposed, numerous other questionable products were highlighted on the marketplace. Covering this topic is always great to see. I can't even begin to outline all of the problems we have been having with Mojang, particularly with its apparent refusal to cut ties with its creators when they are knowingly and willingly causing trouble for financial gain. It's a really shitty situation to deal with.

Microsoft really has changed the focus of Minecraft Bedrock. Crazy.

I made a map for the marketplace once, was a ton of work for only a tiny return, decided to focus on YouTube instead where I have more control over my content.
edit: microsoft takes about 70% really, and of that remaining 1/3, part is taken by the publisher and a part is taken by the company you partnered with, and if you make a taxable amount of money from that, the federal goverment will take 1/2 of whatever is left of that so me as the map creator got perhaps 7 cents from a 99 cent map. you can see why I decided not to work for 3 months publish a second one.

As someone who has made a good few skins, I am sickened by the amount of stolen skins on the marketplace. Ive actually found one of the skins I use on some random bedrock skin pack before

It was, it is and it will be always about money. Even if they own billions of dollars it would be still not enough for them. It is just pathetic, disgusting and disappointing how Marketplace is destroying the reputation of Minecraft Bedrock Edition

I can't believe the cut is that much, I feel like Microsoft is gonna be mad when they find out about this video, nice content as always!

The fact that "the player is not allowed to feel bad" is just... such a bad rule. I don't wanna be that guy, but when society tries to curate things to the point where all negative feelings are not supposed to occur, that is an incredibly toxic environment. Did they seriously not think about the deeper implications of this? I mean, sure, this is just some stupid little map in a block game. But its part of a wider, rather disturbing trend. Sad to see that Mojang too has hopped on that one.

Little extra info for the bad internet since TheMisterEpic has good internet. When failed to login (game logs you out after a short while once bad/no internet), the worlds you have played on (that are marketplace content), with have a lock symbol beside it. Attempting to open the world, brings up "Purchase world Template?" screen

Microsoft's cut on all sales for the marketplace rate was what caught me off guard the most. I did not expect it to be so significantly that bad. This is why we can't have one version of Minecraft. I would be afraid of things like this going on to Java edition and being forced upon everyone. Thank you for this video as it spreads more awareness about how broken the system is

as a bedrock edition player it is quite sad how all this happens inside the market place

How the Hell are you supposed to tell a good story where the player is not allowed to “feel bad?”

This is exactly why I never play on bedrock, I hope Microsoft doesn't do this other games too.

I do marketplace work as a contractor for teams. the first team I worked with was absolutely trash. I was young at the time and very new to it all, so I just went with it. they kept asking me to share my ideas for the map, design game mechanics, & plan out a story. they kept telling me "Oh yeah we've got a build team on it", and things like that. I spent quite a few days on this and they never paid me or even followed up afterwards.

9:07 Keep in mind that on some platforms the app stores already take 30%. So on Android for example 30% goes to Google, 32.5% goes to Microsoft and 37.5% goes to the third party.
Edit: math

As someone who has played on bedrock for several years the market place seems like a very manipulative shop and with everyone wearing skins from the item shop it acts like some sort of peer pressure to get a skin

And this is why I will always be a java player.

I've always seen the ability to create your own player skin as a foundational part of the game, and even if mine arent as good as some of the stuff youll find online I've always liked playing with a skin I made myself.

Even ignoring all the other stuff jammed into or carved out of the game, that by itself is already basically a dealbreaker for me.

Shock. Outrage. Etc.
Meanwhile, Spotify cuts are literally fractions of a penny per stream. Musicians make most of their money from touring. Streaming is the biggest way music is consumed today, and yet musicians get barely a fraction of the cut from streaming. Streaming income is essentially meaningless for a musician.

What I'm getting from all this: all creators are consistently getting screwed, while distributors are taking the majority of the cut. It's worse today than it ever was before.

Thank you for your good journalism! Even as a Java player, I feel like the marketplace taints the image of the game as a whole and is completely antithetical to the spirit of user created content for the game. I really hope there can be change!

I have a feeling that the marketplace contributes to bedrocks lack of polish. Since java edition's revenue mainly comes from game sales, the java devs focus more on making the game as polished as possible. But bedrock's main source of income is the marketplace, so instead of polishing the main game, they focus on taking money from other people's work and make it more lucrative to sell trashy bootleg content that appeals to kids.
