hailand & Pattaya News, from Fabulous 103fm (13 June 2022)

50 years was the sentence given to a so far unnamed policeman in Bangkok who, the court found, had taken multiple bribes from a seedy massage parlour, with the promise of looking the other way... Not once but at least 65 times did he kindly receive the donations, each though recorded and handed to police when they demanded proof.

British Expats have a right to worry according to sources within the passport office in the UK, this as the delays for passport issuance are INCREASING rather than decreasing. With 13 weeks said to be the current norm, the only way to speed things up is, we are told, to go back to the UK and pay for the VIP service. A reminder for all that many countries insist on 6 months remaining in your passport when travelling, so if YOURS is due within the year, at any time, well... it's best to renew now. As we reported several weeks ago on the delays, the UK embassy does NOT issue passports but you can apply through the agency that issues visas, mail yourself to the UK or use an agent.

Claims that the tsunami early warning system for Thailand might be non operative have been nixed by the DDPM who admit that a couple of their recording buoys, out in the ocean, had worn free of their anchors but that both had been recovered. They, along with other sources, link to a satellite that then feeds information to navy authorities.

In Petchaburi, a 29 yr old Thai man has been arrested and charged with running websites and social media pages offering recordings of youngsters. The content, well you can guess and with nearly 300K followers it becomes even more worrying. Each follower on social media, together with those who paid him will be investigated, this as he has admitted his crime and agreed to cooperate fully.

Car seats for children? Well, that's due to become law here BUT there may be a delay as Thai media reports that the Royal Thai Police haven't sent out a full list of requirements to their offices. They have also complained that prices can be beyond the buying power of many Thais right now and asked for a delay until affordable seats and boosters come onto the market here.

As for the first time, alcohol was allowed to be sold during an election period, the vote count in the two regions of the city was poor. Hardly anyone voted in the second ballot after the weekend which followed reports that ballot boxes had previously gone missing. The We love Pattaya Party, is set to take the corner office in city hall and fill the council with members as all indication is that they won overall in the city. K. Poramese is the newly elected mayor, after the previous incumbent, and party leader, stepped back with plans to enter mainstream politics.

And a dragon's den, of sorts this weekend as a Pratumnak hotel store room was found to have become the new home of a rather angry monitor lizard. The lizards, which can weigh up to 50kg, are often seen as modern day dragons. This one, well, he was finally freed and taken to a wooded area away from the city where he or she was released.

I have been subscribed for months and give thumbs up for every issue but I never get notification that a new edition is published.
I have to go to a message board that seems to get the daily editions and copy from there.
