Does Gear Really Matter?? Feat. My FIRST CAMERA!!

Hi, Everybody!

In this video, I want to talk about camera gear. To be honest, I am mostly making this video to convince myself that I DO NOT need every piece of camera gear I see in videos here on YouTube...

I think an easy way to remind ourselves that photography isn’t ALL about the gear is to look back at where we started.

Especially if you are just starting out, I want you to know that you do not need the newest, most expensive camera to learn photography! In this video, we take a look at some of my favorite early photos captured on my sister’s old Canon Rebel T2i with the 40 mm pancake lens. I made this video to prove that you can make good photos with cheap gear!

I hope this video helps you if you are struggling with Gear Acquisition Syndrome (G.A.S.) or if you are curious about how to start photography. Please let me know what you think about the photos in the comments below! I would love to hear about the camera that you started on! As always, thank you so much for watching.

Gear is always fun and exciting to look at and think about. I’m always watching gear videos too, but when it comes down it it’s about the things you want to take photos of and the camera is there to help you with your vision. I’m reminded of the “Cheap Camera Challenge” videos from DigitalRev where they give professional photographers toy cameras to go shoot with, but the images they capture were all still awesome.

My first camera was a Yashica (now that is showing my age). I now use a Nikon. I think it is part gear and part talent. My brother takes really good wildlife photos. Most important thing for wildlife photos, a lot of patience and a very understanding partner. Stay safe.

i think for sports and wildlife gear does matter, for portrait, landscape, street most cameras can do the job.
