Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has met up with some of the first Ukrainian recruits to take part in a military training programme running across the UK.

The course is part of the UK's commitment to supporting the country in its fight against Russia's unprovoked invasion.

"Using the world-class expertise of the British Army we will help Ukraine to rebuild its forces and scale up its resistance as they defend their country's sovereignty and their right to choose their own future," Mr Wallace said.

As a Brit I am proud of the support this country is giving the brave Ukrainian fighters. I just hope all the good countries around the world keep up the supply of weapons. As many as possible, as quick as possible and as long as they are needed.

Thank you Britain for sharing your skills and expertise to these brave Ukrainians! And thank you to the Ukrainian soldiers who fight for freedom, democratic governance and the rule of law. Greetings from Sweden 🇺🇦🇬🇧🇸🇪

I actually quite like Ben Wallace. It's a shame he doesn't want the big chair. That means he is the person for the job.

It warms my heart to see them getting the best training possible

This just makes me so happy for the Ukranians. Getting some good professional instruction in soldiering. We might not have boots on the ground in Ukraine, but we're doing as much a we possibly can in all other areas to help Ukraine fight their war. I'm very supportive of the MODs decisions so far.

The British is outstanding for willing to train Ukrainain civilians. Glory to Ukraine and the British.

Entire NATO should adapt this program. If Britain can train 10.000 soldiers France, Germany can do the same. Smaller NATO states could train 2.000 men or so.

Why is everyone putting down the British army? We're doing a good thing.

I applaud the British. They see in the Ukrainians what they were in WW2 where they stood alone, that's where I believe the urgency is for the UK to train and equip the Ukrainians...They see themselves in them.

Slava Ukraini, I hope you enjoy your stay in the UK whilst you are here getting looked after by our best. I hope you can teach them as much as they can teach you, and after the war settles, may our countries grow closer still.

Quite a difference from Russia, who just slaps a helmet and rifle on dudes with little to no training and sends them to the front with a little, ‘good luck’ thumbs up.

Big, big thank you for the thorough training by the UK. Very much looking forward when the troops return home to wreck havoc on the Russians. Slava Ukraini!

3rd Rifles are a premier light infantry force, perfect teachers for the types of formations that Ukrainians have used successfully in countering Russian invaders so far.
Small, mobile units capable of inflicting damage on Russian formations and vehicles through deployment of MANPADS and AT munitions as well as able to engage and disengage with Russian forces at will in the agricultural villages and forests of the Donbas.

Other Ukrainian forces will also benefit from similar training on the plains and fields of Kansas from similar US forces.

Swift and Bold.
It is a good thing Britain is doing. In such a short training package there is only so much that can be done to take a civilian to a soldier. Soldiering is a skill. However, this will make a huge difference as having the basic infantry skills allows all the other skills these Ukrainians invariably have to better focus them to the task ahead of them.
All the best to them.
No one likes a bully and Russia is being a bully. They have no business in Ukraine.
I only wish more and more nations would give the Ukraine all the tools and heavy weapons they need to throw out the Russian aggressor.

This is so beneficial to both parties. Clever by Britain to not linger with bringing Ukrainian soldiers to train in the UK. More countries shud do this, to prepare their military for the new situation in Europe.

to highlight how the Russians don't bother with training. On Vladimir zolkins channel he interviews Russian pows and they've had only had 2 hours training.
