In this video, Jeremy Cioara covers how telephone systems work in general and what differentiates VoIP from the analog and digital voice systems of both the past and present. He also describes the advantages of VoIP over traditional systems and some of the real-world protocols that it uses to accomplish this.

After watching this video, you will understand the basics of how voice communication works, regardless of how technical your background may be.

Jeremy will teach you how voices travel from one device to another and how analog, digital and VoIP systems make this happen in very different ways by converting voices into either electronic impulses or data prior to transmitting them over cables. You will further learn how VoIP uses TCP/IP and various special codecs that are unavailable in analog and digital systems to make voice communication more efficient and easier as well as compatible with a wide range of devices.

What is this? It's an excellent way of explaining a concept. Just because you don't like it doesnt mean others don't.

Hi,
Does it mean that to use VOIP there would not be a need to have Telecom service provider. If we wont need Telcos, how do we then get phone numbers (unique identifiers)?

Isn't it use UDP?! I mean VoIP calls needs Real Time Protocol, TCP is pretty slow in that case but more reliable of course.

what on earth is this rubbish - get to the point. You dont need to talk about the 16th century or people being shot into space to explain what voip is.
