Inside the lab trying to commercialise nuclear fusion | BBC News

In a laboratory south of Montreal, Canada, scientists are busy trying to build the pathway for a new energy solution.

Fuse is a start-up on a difficult mission - to commercialise nuclear fusion.

Fusion is a process that occurs naturally inside the sun - when two atomic nuclei combine, they release energy.

Here on Earth, scientists have been trying to recreate that for almost a century, but now, in the midst of trade wars and with our environment high in the balance, the race is on.

The BBC was granted exclusive access to Fuse's Montreal site to find out more.

Good that there are people working on innovations like this instead of whining and placing negative comments.

Also, agreed with all commentators. Why even release this, there is no content, was it a paid ad?

This sort of thing needs to be done within the UK, the conversion from H to He is so wonderful.

Yeah, I'm not going to believe a company with an "Amazon Special" oscilloscope is going to have enough financial backing to accomplish this.

So they have a big tin can, then they flick a switch and the computer says "success"? Great progress guys 👏

Wow... Absolutely nothing here proves their concept actually works, other than a giant metal can, some CGI renders and a computer that says "Success".

This is why I don't pay for a TV licence BBC.

😮 “background” music - super-annoying for many or most people. Why do you do it?

( 50yo ex BBC Sound engineer, ironically)

Fusion has significantly increased the amount of time it can sustain a reaction for recently

Nuclear fusion is a natural source of energy .In the Universe the stars light is made by two atoms of hidrogene fusioning, with the result of energy and a atom of helium. This is what they want, in human artificial and useful comercial scale. " You can do it".

Never trust someone wearing a jacket like that. Especially if they are selling you science smacks of elon musk like.
