Meh, I much prefer the FTM400. The touch screen is sweet and I can cross band repeat on it.. I’m just thankful I got mine before they discontinued it, which I think was a mistake…

When I saw the big VFO knob I was hoping for a 891 replacement. I wish they would put something out this size with an internal tuner. Something G90ish.

I’d like the knobs to be more resistive than the FTM-300 which is way to easy to turn the dials accidentally. Thanks for getting this out here so quickly.

For this price and capabilities, we will stay with our FT-857D that does most ham bands in a small box (and great RX even on the normal FM broadcast band, lol). The benefits we see here on this new radio will not send us back to the ham shop for some more buying.
Yet, we are only one family with one view, as for others, who see the benefits (and there are some), got the funds? the time? go for it.
We will still be waiting for something similar to the ft 857d or ft897, just upgraded with all the new bells and options (we still to date can't beat the old ft879 with only 0.66A taken on RX standby while having most of the ham bands at our deposal in one small box, a lot to say about a radio that is more than 15yrs old with the FT897 approved back in 2002).
One a good note we always support those companies who support the ham radio community regardless of make or brand (those who are older and had to build their own gear will understand).

Hope it has a memory component function that allows for the radio to store individual memory banks for other areas where it may travel like another metropolitan area, another county, or another state. Last two Yaesu mobiles had All, VHF only, or UHF only and not suitable for a mobile radio of any merit.

For travelers/drivers, since it has GPS onboard, it would be nice to see the addition of a geo-locatable repeater database. Makes me wonder if Icom is the only mfr allowed to do that (patents or whatever). I guess you could sort of kludge it with multiple SD cards and carefully crafted channel lists...

I hate to admit this but that speaker built into the head of the unit would be worth the price of the upgrade to me. Without reservation I would do that upgrade.

If there is no 6 pin Mini-DIN like on my 817ND then this is an automatic no. The only other thing better would be a built in sound card/control USB like the 991A (One USB two COM ports.)
